Sandusky Lee KDE7236-07 Putty Steel SnapIt Storage Cabinet, Keyless Electronic Lock, 4 Adjustable S

Sandusky Lee KDE7236-07 Putty Steel SnapIt Storage Cabinet, Keyless Electronic Lock, 4 Adjustable Shelves, 72' Height x 36' Width x 18' Depth
  • Steel cabinet with four adjustable shelves and a 180 lb. per shelf capacity suitable for storage
  • Two hinged doors with full-length stiffeners for strength and a keyless electronic locking handle for security
  • Keyless electronic lock has two programmable passwords and, for security, keeps records of when the unit was accessed
  • Includes external back-up battery to run electronic keypad during power failure, and two bypass keys for use if electronic lock fails
  • Assembly required, instructions included, tools for assembly sold separately

I purchased this cabinet because I liked the idea of it snapping together and not requiring putting screws in inaccessible locations. Also, the keyless electronic coded lock appealed because the cabinet is being used to store items that are required to be under "lock and key." The cabinet was relatively easy to put together; my wife and I did in under two hours. We only made one error which was easily remedied, and that was because we didn't read the graphic instructions carefully. The cabinet is reasonably strong and when locked is reasonably difficult to enter. The electronic lock works quite well. I would have given this item a five star rating except for the packaging. The packaging is quite flimsy and not adequate given the weight of the steel parts within it. As a result some of the parts were dented, but I was able to straighten them out so that we could complete the assembly. Overall we find it to be a good purchase but not pleased with how it was packaged; the parts simply were not adequately protected.

Assembly directions could be a lot better, particularly for the electronic lock mechanism. In fact, I do not believe that the instructions were 100% appropriate for the lock provided. However, the lock was easy enough to learn and to use. Two people would make the assembly easier but I did it myself. The shelves seem sturdy and I have all of them heavily loaded. The one improvement to suggest is something to make the unit more rigid as it does flex a bit from side to side, especially when the shelves are not heavily loaded. Such as a cross-brace across the back side, either inside or out.

We've now had this thing for a few weeks. The separate delivery company is a pain as they give you a 4 hour window of time and you have to be home to sign for it. It took 3 people a couple hours to put together. The user manual is for several model numbers so it was hard to follow. The electronic locking mechanism is not working (now that we have it together, of course!) and we are in circles with the mfg to try to get it fixed. Overall, not yet happy but cross my fingers it gets worked out.
