They seem sturdy. The only problem is we can't install them because despite what you see in the picture, these do not come with the posts. Nowhere in the description does it mention this. These are the shelves only. If you order this you will get a box of shelves, some hardware and nothing more. The posts you also have to order.**EDIT**
The seller sent the posts at a lowered costs. We got the shelves and put them together easily enough. They look great and are perfect size for a free standing book shelf. So far no complaints. One of the shelves was dinged pretty good, but whatever; that's the breaks when shipping heavy shelves around the country I guess.
