Shelves are solid (no veneers), rustic/distressed wood planks with a darker oak flooring stain color to them. Frame is also sturdy, welded steel or aluminum (hollow/square tubing type). It is very strong but I would guess maybe 25% as heavy in physical weight as (true)old-school wrought iron would be. All in all a good-looking unit a fair price-the descriptive photo is accurate-no surprises. Hardware to assemble shelves comes in a small plastic bag attached to the shipping box at one corner (inside) via a string and can be overlooked or perhaps lost. Shipping was quick and I just ordered another!FYI, Both of my units arrived with all the hardware.
The box it arrived in wasn't damaged, just one of the wooden shelves will require work or replacement.
Also, both shelves i ordered had missing set of screws.
Whoever packed the shelves should pay attention i guess...
I would expect the missing parts to be shipped asap.
