I do not have mission stlye furniture in my home. So I did not order this unit because it matched my decor. I ordered it because it was hands down the sturdiest unit I could find after doing about 4 hours of comparing different units on different sites.I was not disappointed, I have this shelf loaded to the gils and it takes the load like it is made of iron. For the money it is the best.
In addition even though mission is not my style this unit is totally finished front, back, sides, top and bottom in a very desirable color of wood, very fine finish and finished on all edges, nicely rounded shelf edges all added to make this a very attractive unit that would fit well in a country decor , mission, and less formal more comfy laid back feel. Great unit at a decent price. Would buy again.

I just unpacked and put together the first of two of these shelves. I would bet money that these are NOT made of oak but are just a honey oak color. I wonder what kind of wood it is? Still, it looks pretty nice, went together in just over an hour and will serve my purpose. I feel like I was duped though. Description leads one to believe that the "Hardwood and hardwood veneer construction" is oak.
