One of the legs came completely bent. When I called the number, I was told they could not do anything about it and I would have to take it up with amazon. Since it was a gift the time had lapsed for a complaint. I won't order from this company again. The package also came in with many tapes. Looked like a return item. Very unhappy.

I bought a few of these, as they are cheaper and to be honest, better made than comparable items in a fixture catalog. I use them in my store to merchandise a number of sundry items. They come with frosted plastic shelf liners which allow for small items to be stacked, as well as when they are not in place small hanging items can be strung from the shelf ribs. They're very versatile, and when I discovered I didn't need the last one I bought, it came home with me, and now houses a collection of wooden bowls I've bought at craft fairs over the years. They fit well, and look more contemporary in the dove grey shelving.

I set it up in less than 10 minutes. Easy to work with. 4/5 because one of the holes on the top where you are supposed to put a second shelf if you like for stacking was bent and unusable. I guess you get what you pay for, and the unit itself will work fine since I wasn't planning to add another on top.

When I first moved into my current apartment I had to figure out a way to add extra storage space. I searched online at multiple outlets and found a similar product from the container store that was only a 3-tier and triple the price. I finally turned to amazon and found this piece for a fraction of what the container store wanted AND it was a 4-tier! Definitely a good quality piece of furniture for the price paid and looks as good as advertised, but....Man, was this a pain in the ass to assemble.

This is a good enough piece of furniture once you've got it assembled, but I'm taking off three stars because of the assembly problems.

Looking at the unit, once would think it would be easy to assemble however, the instructions are impressively bad. The unit has to be put together in a specific order but a couple key pieces aren't numbered so you have to spend time putting it together in your head.

Several screws are in cramped spaces that really require a right-angle screwdriver to get tightened properly. Fortunately, I have one but people who don't will have issues.

Six important screws at the bottom were neither pre-drilled nor marked. Four of those were in a curved corner which made getting them in and properly tightened almost a carpenter's-level problem.

I'm knocking off a fourth star because the front page of the instructions has a 30-point font message about how putting together furniture can be difficult for the average person and that you need to take care to properly read the instructions and take your time....

The message is fine when you begin putting the cabinet together but by the time you've dealt with the incomplete instructions, lousy screw placement and missing pre-drilled holes, the message feels snide and condescending because all of the problems associated with putting this together were the manufacturer's fault.

I have two corner areas in my hallway that are almost wasted space they just needed something to make them useful/functional. I have purchased these corner shelves and they have made the space look fantastic & they are now functional!! VERY happy with my purchase!!!

The baskets I got with this bookcase were very poor quality. They are unraveling all over. They also have two metal pegs on the bottom that scratch the wood finish of the Shelf. i had to Cover the entire bottom of my baskets with felt and line the insides because they scratch and knick everything they come in contact with. The pictured baskets look a lot smoother, nothing like the ones I got. The shelf itself is pretty good quality.

looks more black compared to the rest of my furniture but still looks great! easy to put together. if i had the space i would purchase a 2nd one.

I bought this to serve as an organizational tool for my family. I needed something to hold things that I found randomly around the house. With this unit there is room for everyone to have their own basket. The baskets are light enough with two handles for my kids to carry their own things to their rooms each night. The baskets are made of cornhusk, so they aren't the sturdiest material but they are of a size that would be easy to replace later on if necessary. The unit itself is very easy to put together and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, considering it came in pieces. The back panels are a thin plywood rather than the cardboard you typically find on build it yourself furniture. Overall the piece looks classy and fits in nicely with a contemporary or traditional decor. I do recommend.

I like this shelf a lot. It was pretty easy to put together by yourself (though I think it recommends two people). The baskets are a bit smaller than I would have thought but they're still useful for storage. The whole thing is a lot sturdier than I was anticipating based on the cost.

The color is true to the picture... a dark brown, espresso color which goes great with the similar colored furniture in my apartment.

All in all, I would recommend this product, just make sure that you check all the pieces before putting it together because Amazon cannot send you ONE replacement piece... just a whole new one.

The braces in the package I received do not fit. They will not work in the intended fashion (as shown in the diagrams) because the notch on top was not cut deeply enough. I needed one brace in a hurry, so I filed the notch open until it fit. It takes several minutes, so this will be a real pain to repeat when I need the others.

This a ClosetMaid MANUFACTURING ERROR. Whatever happened to quality control?

South Shore Axess Collection 3-Shelf Bookcase

As someone whose books threaten to take over the house, I am always in need of new and inexpensive shelving. This bookcase more than filled the bill. Although it is just a basic three shelf bookcase, it is sturdy, attractively painted, and holds a good number of books and magazine, including the oversized versions.

I recently ordered three of these bookcases. The bookcases were not too difficult to put together and I did assemble them all by myself in about three hours. However, I do agree with a previous review that a second pair of hands would have been helpful. These bookcases are well made and they look great in my office. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Who ever gave this shelf a good review MUST work for the company or know someone who does. Honestly, I just bought several pieces of South Shore furniture and they are all so cheap and so bad, including this shelf, that I'm having a hard time writing a review without swearing.

Putting this shelf together was as complicated as simple shelf could be. Parts barely fit, it came together poorly, and it showed from the outside. I have bought and built so many pieces of furniture, expensive and bargain. I'd have to say so far, this shelf, and another piece from this company have been the worst I've ever made. Next time, I'll just go to Walmart. The quality would be better and the price would have been cheaper.

I've also recently bought items from Powell and Magnussen. They turned out intuitively planned, and of beautiful quality.

I really thought this would be a great BOOKCASE. However, less than three weeks after I (correctly) put this bookcase together and began using it the middle shelf fell out and dumped all my books onto the floor. Then, because the middle shelf collapsed as it was falling out it "upset" the bookcase so that the top shelf of books fell out too. I have to say I was incredibly surprised when I looked over the mess to find that BOTH shelves had "bowed" so severely that they will no longer will sit on the EXTREMELY FLIMSY clear plastic "shelf brackets". AND as I mentioned above; these EXTREMELY FLIMSY clear plastic "shelf brackets" do NOT fit into the little pre-drilled holes properly: they pulled down on the holes so that they no longer will fit and stay!!! I have never seen such a flimsy piece of "furniture". OH, and in case you wondered I had only 11 books on those shelves that bowed and then collapsed! This IS supposed to be a bookcase right???!!! I REALLY wish I could return this NOT at my expense AND get my money back. However, I am quite sure it is too late. Please just be warned: this "BOOKCASE" WILL NOT SUPPORT BOOKS!!! Even the upright sides of this so-called BOOKCASE are now slightly "bowed" outward...... BEWARE!!!!! I would NOT recommend this item at all!!!!

P.S. I gave this a ONE star rating because I could not proceed beyond this page without it!!! It really deserves NO stars!

A bookshelf has but one job: to hold books. This unit isn't doing very well with this task. I have books (both hardback and paperback), magazines, and picture frames in this unit. Two weeks after I placed these items in the unit, both of the adjustable shelves are bowing downward. It looks sad, struggling weakly to hold up its books and trinkets. It's the perfect size for the space I have, and besides the bowing shelves, it looks fine, so I'm not sure I'll replace it. I may go to the hardware store and see if I can replace the particle board shelves with real wood.

Other reviewers say this is a good product for its price, but I actually don't think this shelf is particularly inexpensive since it's practically useless as is. I paid only slightly more for an all-wood hanging shelf just a few weeks before I ordered this product. I should have gone with that company again, but I didn't because it took a long time to ship, and I wanted it as soon as possible. Poor choice on my part.

Buy this product if you want a shelf for light trinkets, but this is not a bookshelf.
