Archetype Shelf- Walnut

I ordered a couple of these to expand the Salamander Designs A3/W Archetype 3-Shelf Audio Stand (Walnut)

I was a little concerned as the Audio Stand was listed as (Walnut) and the single shelf was listed as (Walnut Veneer). As far as I can tell, the shelf is not veneer but is the same quality wood as the rest of the shelves in the stand. The wood grain varies from shelf to shelf but in my opinion, this adds to the beauty of the piece. The shelves fit with the Stand and with a little planning and patience were easy to add on.

Very sturdy. No scratches. Packaged well. Shipping was a little slow compared to the Stand which I ordered at the same time but it seems to be a third party vendor and maybe is not on the ball as much as Amazon was.

Personally, I have purchased 6 of these shelves..several from Sam's club,

then when Sam's ran out of stock locally I started purchasing them here on Amazon.

These shelves are the type that you knock together, with buttons and keyholes.

You can position the shelves in several different configurations...tall like a bookcase or wide like an entertainment center, and can choose flush shelves or shallow shelves.

I prefer to make mine shallow, they hold books easily without bookends.

The shelves themselves are made of steel, with rather flimsy board inserts, but I find that they hold very well.

It does take 2 people to start assembling the shelves unless you can clamp it somehow, but it gets easier as you go up.

It was easy to put together--until you got to adding the top 2 shelves. Ideally 2 persons assembling would have been better, one alone is a challenge because you have to balance and hold the components. The mechanism to assemble is easy, a modified tongue and groove concept, but you have to be aware that it can come apart just as easily.

The shelf was easy to assemble, no tools needed. I'm a 50+ year old woman and was able to put this shelving rack together by myself in approx. 30 min. The only reason it took me so long was that I couldn't decide how much space to leave between the shelves :). The unit looks great and is very sturdy. Since I'm using it inside a closet, I did not attach the casters.

I was needing more storage space for my small kitchen and this is it. Easy to put together, even for one person. I was able to free up counter space (I hate having a bunch of stuff on my counters)! Cheaper than other brands and it's the same exact product. Sturdy and functional. Love it!

Trust me it could have been a dollar and it wouldn't have been worth it. The Neu Home 17745 Organize It All Concord 3-Tier storage cart is garbage, and they wanted originally $101.00 for it that is laughable! One of the wood sides has a wood knot in it and at that knot it was cracked, the cuts to the wood aren't straight, so attempting to put the baskets into the pre-drilled holes was impossible, they won't line up properly. Yes, the product arrived quickly, but my guess is it arrived quickly because they wanted to get rid of the product from their inventory as quickly as possible. Save your time and money DON'T purchase this product no matter how cheap..I guess the old adage applies you get what you pay for..but even at $27.00 and for the size it is it should have been decent.Neu Home 17745 Organize It All Concord 3-Tier Storage Cart

If I had seen this cart in a store, I would not have purchased it. I assembled the cart the day I received it, following the simple picture instructions. However, once assembled, the cart wobbled back and forth. It was not sturdy but wobbled at the slighted push. While I liked the wood details, to keep the cart we would have had to figure out how to reinforce the cart to make it sturdy. My husband felt that the best way to indicate poor design was to return the cart.

Just completed assembly. Package as it arrived was pretty beat up as it was very heavy, but thankfully all the parts were in fine shape, but lots of styrofoam bit were everywhere.

Instructions were a tad unclear on the orientation of the cable tidy, but I figured it out. I had one bolt that was cross-threaded (the one on top of course, that has to be in far enough to have the chrome cap in the correct spot.) I had to flip that tube around and use the other end.

Looks great!

The stand looks awesome in my living room and it fits all my multi media equipment. Shelf dimensions are very intelligent. Bottom shelf easily fits my receiver with room for heat removal. The other shelfs are almost a little too high (although I won't complain about that...).

Assembly was easy, I did it on my own.

The aluminum columns are somewhat not the best quality with regards to coating. At some points the coating formed small droplets and on two spots the coating was scratched off.

Anyhow these two minor flaws are rarely noticeable. I painted the scratched are with a black pen and it's not visible from the couch.

Some of the glass plates are held in place via the aluminum columns and some silica grippers at the back panel. These silica grippers are completely useless and don't work at all. The shelf stands without them though.

(This has nothing to do with the shipper but I would just like to add that Fed Ex delivered this rack which is around 80 pounds and dumped it on my steps. I ordered this when I sure to be home during Spring break. He didn't knock on my door to let me know it was there. I wouldn't have known it was there if I didn't happen to look out the window at that time to see the Fed Ex truck outside of my house. Of course the delivery guy caught an attitude because I asked him if he could help me push the heavy box inside of my house. Being a woman with back issues this would have been too much for me to handle alone. Besides, the box was located behind the door. I'm not only mentioning this to vent, but for those reading this to be careful because this shipper ships Fed Ex and if it doesn't need a customer signature, THEY CAN LEAVE YOUR PACKAGED ANYWHERE ON YOUR PROPERTY FOR A CLEVER THEIF TO STEAL!

Now after I've finished venting, let's get back to the item.

Again, this box is heavy. Mine arrived looking like it had been through a war. The outside box was ripped at the bottom, but good thing there was a second box inside of the damaged box. Once you open the box, there will be bits of foam everywhere as you begin to take out the pieces. You can tell the foam is cheap and flimsy but it did the job of preventing the glass from breaking. These little annoying pieces of foam sticks to everything your furniture, glass pieces, floor and the clothes you're currently wearing.

I would have given this item 5 stars if all of the pieces would have been included in the box. the screws that attach the foot support to the cable tidy was missing. I went to three stores and couldn't locate it. I had to improvise at the third store and found a piece that could attach the foot support to the cable tidy. I purchased 3 of them to add extra support. It doesn't look pretty and my son teased me about it, but since it's located in the back of the unit I can live with it. It was way too heavy to try and ship back just because there were missing pieces. This stand looks beautiful once it's assembled. It's very roomy. You will love this. I was upset after learning the pieces were missing, but became happy with my purchase after I was able to get pieces that did the job. You will be happy with this. I purchased this to match another glass tv stand that I have for my 47 inch tv.

The description notes a 500 album capacity. They must have removed all the jackets to squeeze 500 albums in that space. While it appears to be sturdy, the outside finish is one of the most unappealing of any product I have ever purchased. Oh, I was able to fit 416 records in that rack.

I would not purchase this product from this company again. From a distance, it looks nice, but there are a lot of ugly small defects that are noticeable within a few feet. There was a bump on the front edge of a panel, and there were multiple places where the veneer had been patched with a sloppy, un-matching piece.

Without these defects, the piece has a nice shape and is sturdy, and I would have given it four stars. But I don't care to pay >$150 for a piece of furniture with patches of veneer stuck all over the sides. That's the kind of thing I'd expect to see from a used piece in a yard sale, not a new piece directly from the company.

the storage unit arrived in good condition from the seller, musician's friend. all of the pieces were included. the instructions are a little vague but if you have any common sense you should be able to put it together in about 20 minutes. it is sturdy and solid. the only thing i don't like about it is that your record collection will be sitting on two bars that go across and serve as shelves. i ended up taking a piece lumber that was 1/2 inch thick and 14 inches wide and cutting it to place on top of the bars to serve as shelves. if you don't own a circular saw you can by from a major hardware store (i.e. home depot or lowes) and they'll cut the wood for you.

i would rate this five stars if it had solid shelves instead of two metal bars.

This thing is ugly but it's what I expected from the product photo (I bought the walnut/brown model). However, the veneer is poorly applied and shows all kinds of defects (bubbling and peeling). It also holds fewer than 500 albums maybe more like 475.

The assembly is easy but would have been a lot easier if the instructions were written with slightly more care. A few more words of text and a couple of marks on the diagram would have made a LOT of difference.

I'm giving it 3 stars because it's hard to find LP storage products and this is very good, functionally speaking. But don't buy this if you care how it looks because returning it would be a nightmare due to its weight.

Despite being double boxed, one of our side panels came with a big crack that went almost all the way through the thickness of the panel. It didn't look like it was going to affect the stability of the unit, so my husband opted not to return it.

The plastic covering the pins is very easy to rip off so you must be delicate with construction

The finish looks like cheap veneer. It's too bad more people don't collect vinyl or I suspect there would be much better options for the price. I don't think it would be that much more expensive to offer a cabinet just like this made out of wood rather than plastic and particle board.

I looked at a lot of book shelves, several of them a lot more expensive than this one. This one really fit the bill. It is solid wood; it is easily assembled with the provided screws (no Ikea style hex wrenches); and they even provide caps for the screw holes to give it a finished look. Great product!

I have another ladder shelf i bought at a local home improvement store. This one is not up to the same quality, but is about half the cost. It does the job, but it is obvious this is of cheap construction. The cam lock that holds the support foot on the bottom is loose and doesn't hold tight and the wood isn't of the best quality.
