Torrence 64"h Widescreen Tv Stand

My wife and I were looking for a TV stand for our new 46" LCD TV and found this ladder style stand. We were really excited because of the unique style and planned to get the matching shelves. We received the stand in good time and we assembled it to find that one of the metal screw mounts were missing from the left A-frame. We contacted Home Decorators and they shipped us another set of A-frames.

After we received the new parts, we put the stand together fairly quickly. In the process we did manage to scuff/mark up the finish in the process, but it seems like the finish damages fairly easily. That was the first mark against this stand.

The second came when we put our TV on the stand and noticed that it bowed under the TVs weight. This was severely disappointing because the TV fits perfectly and the stand does look attractive, also because our TV doesn't weigh that much. When we purchased we hadn't noticed the previous review that mentioned the second shelf bowed under the weight of the TV Tuner and the AV Receiver. We didn't experience this problem on the second shelf because we only have a center channel speaker resting on it. So, please be warned that the top two shelves truly aren't the strongest and will bow under the weight of your AV equipment, light or modestly weighted.

We have decided to return the stand and invest the money into a nicer more sturdy stand. This stand wasn't too expensive, but for $300-$350 I was expecting much more.

But, I will say that the Home Decorators service people have been very helpful and accommodating. I will certainly consider purchasing items from them again in the future, but I will be certain that the product is solid wood opposed to veneer.

I love this tv stand. I looked for a long time for something different. I didn't want a huge entertainment center or the same tv stand everyone else has. I wanted something that was well made too. This one fit my needs to a T. It's very stylish looking, has great shelves for components as well as a top shelf to put candles or books, etc. Take a look at the dimensions too. It fits very nicely in any area, doesn't take up a lot of floor space and adds nice vertical height. I put this together by myself although it would be easier with 2 people. It's very sturdy and adds such a great look to my living room. I bought mine in black and it looks so great. This stand was also much less expensive than most I looked at and it's worth every penny. I highly recommend this product.

This product is exactly what we were looking for. I love the vertical feel of this stand. Our 42" tv fits perfectly on it & it's sturdy. It has the perfect shelves to be able to display my decorative baskets holding dvds, etc. Ample room for numerous components, game systems, baskets, picture frames, decorative knick-knacks. It frames the tv beautifully, and I have gotten great compliments from friends/family/neighbors. The white color creates a fresh, luxe, chic feeling & is a great alternative to the typical wood color. I purchased this TV stand to replace my old scratched up stand. I was looking for something with this style and that would match my other living room funiture. The stand that I purchased was listed as Dark Walnut but let me tell you, it looks nothing like my other living room furniture that is Dark Walnut. This stand while it is very nice, it is Cherry, maybe a brighter red cherry than normal. It does not come close to matching my dark Walnut furniture.

The assembly for the stand was straight forward. I put it together by myself in about 2 hours. The shipping cost for this product was kinda high but when it arrived I see why it was so much. You might need two people to carry the one of the two boxes that it comes in. The stand was packed very well in the boxes, which I am glad, since UPS did not take too much care with it.

The only complaints that I have with this stand are:

the color is not Dark Walnut.

With my big screen TV on the stand the middle shelf is bowing down. I am going to have to make some supports for under the middle shelf to prop it up. While the stand is quite heavily built it will need some help with the middle shelf.

I love this entertainment center. It was easy to assemble under 1 hour for me and my husband to put together and it looks great. I have recieved tons of compliments on it and it fits in my small living room perfect. The only reason it got 4 stars and not 5 was because it had 2 small scratches on it when it arrived and the center shelf is not reenforced. it seems to be bowing from the weight of my dvd player and cable box.

I would recommened this product to anyone looking for a unique TV console at a reasonable price

Prime Line Prod. 242159 Shelf Supports

One of the 72 shelf supports in our kitchen was missing ( the former owners stuck a nail in the hole to replace it )

so I started a fruitless hunt through hardware stores and home centers to find a replacement (fruitless because nobody carries

3 mm pin supports.) Luckily I found these at Amazon for a good price and now I have 7 spares.

They're clear plastic supports molded around a metal pin, well made, and they look good in modern cabinet ( ours are all white with brushed aluminum handles ).

We moved into a new house and found an extra shelf for our kitchen cabinets but needed extra shelf supports to install it. We started looking at local hardware stores and realized that we had 3mm holes in our cabinets rather than the more standard 5mm or 1/4 inch, and we couldn't get 3mm locally. These shelf supports were exactly what we needed at a reasonable price, and they counted towards free super saver shipping with our Amazon order.

These are the thiner-hole type of shelf supports. I was happy to be able to find these on amazon here because I can't seem to find them in stores. I used a few of these to replace some missing shelf supports that have the thinner peg-holes. A relief to find these.

I lost some Ikea pegs for a TV stand. No hardware store carried the 3mm shelf supports. These fit the bill and worked great.

The console arrived promptly and, although the box showed some signs of rough handling in transit, it was so well packaged that nothing was damaged. It is made of particle board with a good quality veneer and looks as pictured. Directions are clear, and all necessary parts were included. It is a nice-looking piece at a fair price. I recommended it.

I love this t.v. stand. I can't believe the quality for the money. It looks great, and is sturdy enough to support my big screen t.v. and accessories.

The assembly did take a bit of time to finish (about 3 hours, but I was working by myself, and it suggests working with another person). I think the time to assemble was reasonable considering the sturdiness of the final product; and, even though it took a while, the instructions were still incredibly well written and easy to understand. And the only tool required was a phillips-head screwdriver.

I was also impressed with how carefully it had been packaged for shipping and the quick delivery time. I definately recommend this product!

This is a very impressive unit for its price. Although it is engineered wood (fiberboard) it's very high quality at that, with laminate coating that's very convincing. Do not think it's going to look cheap like some kind of laminate shelving you put in your closet not even close. The boards are heavy and designed to support a hefty amount of weight on them without warping.

Best of all, though, was the fit and finish and how easy it was to put it together. The instructions are easy to follow and the panels fit perfectly together. The big test were with the swinging doors and if they scraped or had huge gaps perfectly passed the test with no scrapes and the gaps are nonexistent; doors closed perfectly like a French cabinetmaker would've constructed !

Packaging this thing came in some of the heaviest duty packaging I've ever seen. The packaging itself easily weighed over 10 lbs.

From start of unpack to disposal of the packaging took me 90 minutes to complete by myself. It's not hard but do plan to have floor space for staging purposes. The boards need to lay out and have room to work with.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this unit. True, it does not use real hardwood but a real hardwood unit of this calibre would easily cost at least 5-7x as much if not more. Combine that with free shipping on Amazon, and you get a phenomenal value remember, this entire package is very heavy and would be quite a challenge to bring from store to home why go through that pain when the UPS guy can bring it to your door.

I needed something less obvious in my bathroom. This is long enough to hold all my products, one line only, so it doesn't look so messy. It is 2ft long. It was a pain to put up, but once that was done I really liked it. I used my own drywall anchors, not the set that came with the hardware. Rather than messing around with a level, I use regular tape and run it from one screw point to the other and draw a dot on each end where I need the anchors to go. Then I put it on the wall and level it out. MUCH easier to move a piece of tape than drill 9 different holes in 3 different ares before you get it even.

Very easy to put together. Out of the box and in use within 10 mins. Can not say enough about how easy it is.

My only problem with the reversible colors is that if you want to put one on each side of a media center, you cant have them the same color. Each media tower has to be reversed because of the way they were designed. Its a very unfortunate design flaw/overlook.

Maybe I am missing something but I dont think so.

ATHome Contemporary Bath Space Savers

Got this because I needed to store some things in the bathroom and didn't have a place. I wanted something appropriate for high humidity, sturdy and the wife wouldn't want to throw it out because it was ugly. I decided metal was best for all of the above requirements and it would appear correctly assumed after a couple months. It happens to fit VERY snugly behind the tank which makes it very secure and impossible to tip. My kids destroyed the last one by trying unsuccessfully to climb on it but they haven't damaged this one despite trying. May not work the same for everyone but did so for me.

I have no claim to decorating prowess but it looks better than the plywood number or plastic ones we've had before and I'm not worried it will mildew like that one or rot/split at the floor level.

My one complaint is that the slots are not very close together. I have a toilet tank tray sitting on the bottom shelf and the tray is where I put all my "smaller" items and what would tip on the wire slots. Towels and most bottles and truly most things are okay on the other shelves and it works out just okay. That does mean you may need something like that but you can even find a nice looking one like brass, chrome or in my case something with a pattern (shells) that the wife likes. :-)

For the price, I certainly can't complain, but for anyone else considering buying this here's a few things to keep in mind. Assembly wasn't too complex, but there were no assembly instructions. The shelves are certainly tall enough to go over our toilet, but it's much deeper than I expected, so it sticks out over the bowl portion quite a bit. Also, if you have any sort of molded baseboard on your wall, that will make it stick out more and cause a problem securing it to the wall if you want to make it more stable (drywall screws were included). The biggest issue is that one piece didn't have the hole drilled through both sides of the metal tube. I have a power drill and a 1/4" drill bit, so it was an easy fix for me, but if I hadn't, I wouldn't have been able to finish assembling it.

I scoured Amazon for above-toilet bathroom shelving units. Evidently there are no widely bought, massively reviewed, 4+ star supra-toilet shelving units out there. But this one seemed like the closest. I read the reviews diligently, noted pros and cons, compared with others, weighed against how long we are likely to stay in our apartment, etc. etc.

Yeah, this was pretty crappy overall. Party my fault, probably, but partly not my fault.

Pros: decent looking metal finish, went well with our brushed-metal bathroom fixtures (pretty standard stuff). Easy to assemble. Looks like all the critical drilled-holes lined up. The top half (with shelves part) is cleverly constructed it's one big unit, and the shelves swivel out in unison, and voila! the top half is ready to go. Plus it was cheap.

Cons:

ALL relevant dimensions should be very prominently advertized. That includes the height of the lowest shelf. It cleared the toilet tank, but barely, and then since it was 13" deep, the toilet lid wouldn't open completely. Not a problem if you always rest your elbows on your knees, but say goodbye to sitting up straight. Can't find my tape measure, or I'd report the lowest shelf heighthere.

Very wobbly because the bottom support bar couldn't be attached because of the pipes under the toilet, and the connecting parts on the legs couldn't be flipped around or otherwise jerry-rigged to allow the support bar to be attached higher or lower.

Also has adjustable feet but only on the front two legs. I can see the being helpful for encouraging the unit to lean back and rest on the wall, but ultimately useless for the main wobbly issue.

I was ready for the widely-spaced rods on the shelves, but at least one of the shelves looked bent, or at least that it wasn't sitting straight. At minimum, this unit has seen better days. God knows how many times it has been sent out from the warehouse, only to return like dog you can't get rid of. If so, that would explain the rather beat-up box. It also came in a loose sheet of clear plastic, like someone sent it to the dry cleaners. Odd, and a hassle to get back in the box the way it came.

Summary: I've looked at everything up to $150 on Amazon for bathroom-specific over-the-toilet shelves, and nothing available looked clearly superior than the one reviewed here. A couple looked likely better, but it's still a gamble. Note to entrepreneurs: If you can mass-produce some decent bathroom shelving for less than $120, you'll make a fortune, because there are tumbleweeds rolling around this niche market.

Maybe I was sent a used item that someone else returned, or it's just a matter of poor quality production as other reviewers have noted. As I said in the above title description, I ordered the Chrome product and it looks discolored and rusted. Given this fact, I imagine that bathroom humidity will only exacerbate this problem. Also, some of the small bars on the shelves looked bent and one was actually out of the socket. I'm returning this for a refund and will order the White color instead in hopes that the paint quality will be decent.

Even compared to more expensive items, I really like and prefer the design style of this space-saver. The height and width seem perfect for my toilet and the 3 shelves are wide enough to hold towels and other large items. That's why I'm taking the time and trouble to order another version of this product.

I'll update this review when I receive the White version, and will assemble it if it is of decent enough quality to keep.

UPDATE June 17, 2012:

The White replacement I received was in much better shape than the Chrome product I returned. The paint job was OK and no shelf rods were detached from their sockets.

Assembley was easy: simply insert the legs and depress the top metal nuts so the legs can slide in and snap into place.

I found that the unit was sturdy enough and made stable enough by simply lowering the 2 moveable pieces located near the bottom shelf and attaching each piece to the respective side leg. The unit is thus stable enough so I don't need to attach the larger stability bar as well.

The box gives the full unfolded size in inches:

68.9(H) x 23.2(W) x 13(D). This should give you an idea of how it will look and fit into your available space. Also, I measured the height of the bottom shelf to be approximately 32 inches high, so everything below this is free space. Since my toilet tank is 28 inches high, that gives approximately 4 inches of free space enableing me to put small items on top of the tank if I should ever want to. My point here is that this unit cannot be placed over something that is roughly 32 inches high or greater, so you may want to check the height of your toilet tank before ordering this space saver.

The product photo shows only large items placed on each shelf. That is because the space between each individual shelf rod is approximately 1.25 inches, so small items will fall through the gaps. Therefore you will need to use something to cover each shelf if you plan to keep small items on this unit.

The bottom line: this is a made in China product so the quality is not the greatest. If you get a lemon, you may want to try your luck and order a replacement or a different color as I did. The White product look and quality is decent enough to meet my needs for a bathroom space saver.

I hope this review and update sharing my experiences may be helpful to anyone thinking of buying this.

Purchased a set of shelves of this brand from Home Depot to install in our office closet, it already had one that came installed by the builder, and was quite easy to install, though it is a tad easier with two people for parts of it. Our house came with these shelves installed throughout and they have held up well, especially the master bedroom closet and pantry which both hold some significant weight.

These shelves are awful.

I purchased them from that horrible Chinese supply store known as Wal-Mart and didn't expect much, but I did figure "It's a shelf, how hard could it be?" Apparently, I was too optimistic.

The shelves come with nails, not screws, even though they come with drywall anchors. Nails for drywall anchors? Really? Nails to hold up shelves? What genius thought of that!?

The enclosed nails are are too small for the holes in the shelve arms. The nail goes right through the hole and doesn't hold anything! What's the point? Who designed this? A farsighted dyslexic!?

The plastic anchors stick out far beyond the nail, requiring you to hit the plastic (or create a chisel type device).

I have installed many, many shelves without incident. These shelves look like they were installed by a 5-year-old. Great job Closetmaid! Keep up the wonderful Chinese craftmanship!
