The construction is sturdy. I would rate the assembly instructions as 9/10. The shelf comes with a small squeeze tube of what looks like elmers glue. When I was constructing the shelf I ran out of this glue and had to substitute some wood glue, unfortunately applying the wood glue got messy because it had to be applied into holes that were smaller that the glue nozzle.

Another problem for me was that the inter-shelf distance in the center is too short to fit regular sized paper back books on. The manufacturers should redesign the book shelf to accomodate paper back books in the central shelf areas.

Other than that the shelf kicks ass.

So the shelf goes together well and looks really nice and seems well made. However, on the short sections of the book shelf you can't fit a standard height paperback book. The books are frustratingly close to fitting. If the shelves were spaced a part half and inch more a standard paperback would fit great on them. So although this looks like a books shelf it really isn't. It is more of a display shelf for other things and maybe some books if you want.

The book shelf did have some minor damage. Nothing that will affect it's performance and most of it can be hidden by strategic shelf / book placement.

When I bought this product it's description was "Display Bookcase Contemporary Style in Cappuccino Finish" The new description is much more accurate.

The bookcase was very easy to assemble and it is a nice size. The shelves are a little more narrow than I thought they would be from the picture, but all of my items still fit on it nicely.

Almost all pieces of product are broken. Still waiting for replacement more than a month. Please don't waste your money for this company.

This was sent with a damaged side piece. We received that new piece after 10 days and put it together. Be aware, this is very cheap material (hollow inside each piece) and marks very easily. It looks ok, but is flimsy and we are not used to cheap looking furniture pieces. It damaged so easily putting it together that we will be trashing it as soon as we find a replacement.

I will be going away to college soon and I was looking for some simple but attractive shelving options. These are it! Assembly was VERY easy and it took me less than fifteen minutes to put it together. They seem sturdy as they can hold up to my massive manga and book collections. I plan on ordering more of these. One of the nicest features is that you can choose and build these shelves to fit in the space that you need to fill. They are easy to customize by putting them together to suit your taste. The different color choices are great too! I highly recommend these shelves. They look great, they are easy and fast to put together, they are reasonably priced, they are sturdy, and they help the environment. What more could a person ask for?

I purchased this shelf to be used in my home Montessori preschool. I decided to buy this over a traditional hardwood shelf because it was less expensive and made of recycled material...and looked super easy to put together from the handy video supplied by the company. When I opened the box I was amazed at how light each piece was! It took me less than 5 minutes to fully assemble the shelf (minus the backboard which I decided against using). It seems sturdy and it's easy to move around since it's light weight. I ordered the Cedar color and it looks quite naturalit matches our laminate flooring perfectly. The design appears much more sleek and clean than a particle board bookcase because it doesn't have holes and pegs for shelf height adjusting (Way Basics shelves are stationary). For Montessori purposes the top shelf is a little too tall for my almost 3-year old to clearly view the items placed on the shelfbut he'll grow up to it eventually.

My only complaint is that all three long boards came cut open at one corner with a few small dents in the boards. I placed each cut corners toward the back during assembly, so they aren't visible except for the very top board. The damage was probably due to shipping, but maybe Way Basics could find a way to package their products more securely, yet still sustainably. The slight damage didn't bother me, because I have a "whatev" attitude about most thingsbut if you're looking for a perfect product be wary that yours could come damaged too (although you CAN return damaged products to Amazon for free).

Also, I would be more likely to recommend to others and purchase additional shelving units if they were priced closer to $30 or less. But bravo to Way Basics for creating a useful, streamlined, sustainable product!

This bookcase looked very good at first. I loaded it only with normal (not heavy or oversize) books, and it was in a house kept at normal temperatures. Within five months the lower supports started shifting horizontally, as the adhesive started letting go. After six months, the back piece came completely loose. Finally, the entire bookcase collapsed sideways. Fortunately, there was nothing nearby that could be damaged by the collapsing unit.

Before purchasing this item, I read the reviews, particularly the negative reviews. I took a chance and purchased the bookshelf in April. The purpose of this shelf was to store heavy bags of liquid (six 5-liter bags and misc supplies) for medical purposes. A few things I did in addition were: (a) I reinforced the dowels by using hot glue in the holes before connecting; (b) Once the sticky tape was all connected, I used 8 lb weights to give steady downward pressure overnight this "sets" the tape; (c) The main structure is really held in place by the backing board. Without the backing, the 'box' is not rigid and will list over time (true for any shelf system really). After using the nails, I added 6 long wood screws to the corners and center from the back to ensure integrity.

After 4 months of storing up to 100 lbs of liquid, and loading unloading as needed... I can say there is no wear to the bookshelf. It's as solid and stable as the day I put it together. I really wanted a metal or wooden shelf, but the wooden ones were particle board, and neither offered the very specific dimensions I required. I have to say, I'm happy with the product.

One thing of note to be aware of is don't place wet items on top for too long, as they will begin to soak through the liner and could disturb the looks and integrity of the material. Not a negative, just be aware.

Well packaged but the pieces showed signs of poor handling such as scratches, small dings, scuffed edges, etc. None of it was "send it back" bad and considering the price and what I intended to use it for it wasn't an issue for me. The condition wasn't shipping as the boxes were in perfect shape so I'm thinking it was prepackaging. This also makes me wonder how well the surfaces will hold up to day to day use.

Assembly was incredibly easy and the thing was stable right from the first pieces being stuck together. There is some play room with he pieces until you really press them together at which point you are pretty much stuck with it. The one exception is the backing... DO NOT MISPLACE IT. Once it is on it is on and it fits right up to the edge all the way around so a little misplace can mean a white strip sticking off one side and being visible from the front. I have this problem on both of the two I assembled tonight but with some careful razor work it is fixable.

In short these are well worth it for the price. Don't expect something to showcase your fine china in or as a centerpiece to your living room but for the kids room or side tables or the bunch of other uses you can make of a little set of shelves like these they are perfect.

While this is built solid, I was a little disappointed with it. In part, I made a mistake of forgetting to check the depth of it, compared to my components. Of the three components I have, two did not fit and I could not close the doors. If it were just an inch deeper, it probably would be fine. So, I am using it without the doors.

The other thing that bothers me is that I had the doors on for about 10 minutes, opened and closed them no more than 10 times and they started to scrape the inside edges of the cabinet where they attached. It could be that I didn't install them correctly (and the instructions aren't clear on the positioning of the hardware which could go a 1/4 inch in either direction). However, the scraping caused the veneer to rip, almost as if it were paper. Due to the positioning of the rips, it is barely noticeable, but I worry what this piece will look like in a couple of years with my two small kids running around the house.

All that said, it feels solid, was easy to put together and looks really nice, even without the front doors.

We ordered this product back at the end of April, and we still have not resolved our problems. It is now almost July. Our first cabinet was defective, the top of the unit was so bowed it looked like a giant brown banana (not kidding). We ordered a replacement from amazon, who were fantastic as usual. We maybe thought we had just been unlucky with the first order, not so. When the second unit arrived it was even worse than the first. This is when we decided to call the company directly. They were pretty helpful, requiring us to take a picture of said defective item. When they received the picture they sent out a replacement. Took about a week for the whole process. Guess what folks.... yes this one was also bowed. Now my husband and I are really ticked, especially him as he spent two hours putting the original unit together only to find the issue afterward. Again we called amazon to order another unit. We didn't want to and amazon were very reluctant to send another out. So we are still without a TV stand, but really don't want to have to put another unit together. We will see how this one is, should be receiving it tomorrow. Will update review when we get it. Until then I would really not recommend buying this item to anyone. Unless you want a massive headache, and a wonky TV stand.

I looked everywhere for a TV table IKEA, Home Goods, numerous online sources, local furniture stores. My last stop was my favorite: Amazon. The choices were endless, and thanks to other customer experiences, I found what I was looking for. The beauty of this piece is not only how it looks, but how easy assembly was. It takes time and patience, but is more than worth the price. If your components are deeper than the unit, as ours were, it's easy to modify the rear piece to accommodate the doors, and the doors are better than one would expect. Beveled, tempered glass. They're really gorgeous and worth the modification. I'm so grateful to Amazon for their Prime option. We received the table in less than 24 hours after ordering! This piece of furniture was so well packaged and labeled that anyone can put it together.

Ordered on the 1st and had it on the 5th. Excellent price. The TV stand itself is very nice. Good fit. Have the right tools and it takes about 50 minutes to assemble. Very easy. Now I do have some experience, but even still, I am over 60. Color was virtually perfect with the rest of the living room. Lots of storage for DVDs; the cable box and the DVD player fit quite well and the doors hung easily.

All in all, an excellent choice for the money.

I think that the quality if craftsmanship is good and the aesthetics are what I expected but it wasn't as large as I thought it would be. As a result, I may have to find another piece of furniture to meet my needs.

I was really pleasantly surprised when I received this shelf. I read all the reviews, understood the dimensions, and frankly didn't have high expectations. The shelf is sturdy and appropriate for displaying knick-knacks. Anyone who purchases this for more practical reasons and needs hardcore storage may be disappointed. So I again stress ths is a display piece for small, lightweight items. The 'distressing' is laughable--it's literally some flat, black marks placed symeterically on both sides. But I always intended to paint it. So with a 1.49 worth of hobby paint, I turned this into a more custom looking piece and the result was wonderful. I challenge anyone to find anything of similar quality at a brick and mortar store without paying 3X as much. One of the shelves is removable (but the screw holes would need to puttied) the other is not. And the top scrolled ornamentation is a completely separate piece, so it can be removed if desired.

Assembly and hanging this wall cabinet was quick and easy. I'm using its shelves to display a collection of mugs. I like the crown decoration on top. Otherwise the shelves are very plain so the crown adds style. My only complaint is a tiny one; in what was I think an effort to antique the shelves a bit, occasionally thin black stripes are painted on the sides. I may paint those out because I wanted all white for my kitchen, but it's not an issue for anyone but me. The mugs are very happy on display on the shelves in this cabinet.

I received this item right away in perfect condition. There was minimal work involved with putting it together, and it's a very pretty little piece. I hung it above my stove as a spice rack. It's the perfect size.

This is a nice piece for the price, but I thought it would be bigger. The shelves are not adjustable, but I ended up just taking out the top shelf so that I could put taller things on the middle shelf. It's a cute, shabby chic style.

More shabby than chic this was beyond disappointing. The removable shelf hardware is huge and ugly and very clearly seen when the shelf is hung. My husband is going to remove the hardware and nail the shelf in place. The paint scheme is also just awful so shabby that I'll be repainting it today!

I ordered this shelf since we just had our shower redone with natural tile and suction cups no longer worked. It is very nice. I can only give it four stars for a few reasons. First, no mounting hardware. Maybe I am used to Home Depot or Lowes but a shelf like this would typically come with screws and wall inserts. This one doesnt. So I have to go shopping for screws. Next, they have pre-drilled holes to mount it onto a wall but since I want to mount it on my grout lines I will have to drill another hole next to the pre-drilled hole which will not look very good. Since this shelf will be mounted high, the extra hole will be pretty obvious. Finally, the pre-drilled holes are counter sunk so deep that there is only about 1/8 of an inch of wood left to secure the screw. Teak is a hard wood but 1/8" isnt enough to keep it secured if you hit it with your head in the shower or put heavy shampoo on it. Typically pre-drilled and countersunk holes will leave most of the wood for strength and the countersink will be shallow. I will probably have to redrill two holes since I am worried about the 1/8" not being strong enough. So all in all a great shelf that I highly recommend. The dark teak wood really accents the new tile in our shower. But it is the little things that count when you order a custom product like this and in this case, the lack of stainless steel screws and the deep drilled holes drop this from a solid 5 to a 4 star.
