I don't know why this is labeled a toy, it's actually a nice storage/cubby unit. This is a great size for storage. There are four of us in the family and we each have our own compartment plus one extra for common household storage. Each cubby has two sets of hooks and plenty of room for shoes, hats, lunch boxes, purses, etc. We put this inside a closet so we left it the way it came, but it would be easy to paint. You assemble and add the hardware so you could paint before attaching the hardware. It's really a great product if you need some extra storage or you need a place for kids to drop their things (besides the floor!) when they get home from school.

When it arrived one of the door stiles was cracked. I had to glue it together before assembly. It was easy to put together but could have taken stain better. All-in-all we are happy the way it turned out and it is quite usefull to us.

The cabinet came in about 20 pieces and it took about an hour to put it together. No special tools required, the instructions are very detailed and accurate. We are impressed by the high quality and craftsmanship. Very nice addition to our home.

Overall it works well, but it looks and feels cheaply made.

A few of the screws were loose and so it was very shaky out of the box, but a few turns of the screw and it works fine.

Paint is not solid as you can see the wood grain underneath the finish, but as I said it still works fine.

Will probably need to be replaced in a few years, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Perfect fit under my microwave shelf in newly remodled kitchen.

Color is nice for the kitchen also.

Looks very nice and uncluttered.

Love the color of this item. Color in picture is dead on. I was worried it wouldn't match my other kitchen items. Paint finish not as "high end" as I had hoped but I am pleasantly surprised with sturdiness of item. Holds large bottles VERY well(with back of it is against wall). Bought 2 of these on Amazon.com for $59.99 each with free shipping. I wanted plastic storage compartments for my garage rather than particle board as sometimes snow melting and falling off of the tires can get the garage floor wet. If particle board gets wet it falls apart while plastic does not. The cabinet assembled nicely, with no tools required. The doors shut fine. I suspect that people who have problems shutting their doors have not properly assembled the cabinet. To snap the top of the cabinet into place, you have to have the doors open. They will then close fine. The doors do have tiny holes for inserting a padlock.

I love these cabinets so much that I bought 2 of the large and 1 of the small. They are the greatest for storage. My basement was a mess before I purchased these. I wish you could see the basement now, it is so neat and we now know where everything is. Highly recommend this product.

After reading a couple of reviews about this item, I was a little skeptical BUT this cabinet is GREAT....EASY to assemble (about 15 minutes)and it's holds SO MUCH stuff! I bought these to store my kids toys in the playroom they hold all the toys and then there's the tops of them that hold even more! The kids have no problems opening them, reaching all of their toys, inside and on top and it leaves lots of floor space for them to play in! I was soooo impressed by these that I bought the full cabinets and I'm now in the process of cleaning up my basement and these are just as fantastic too!

My 13-year-old son and I assembled this together one evening and it was not difficult, but be sure to use a rubber mallet to help gently pound the pieces into place together. I use it for all my spa and pool chemicals (and I have alot!) Do keep the doors in the open position as you pound everything into place together with your rubber mallet towards the end of the assembly process. This unit was the perfect size for me. It is outside on my mid-level deck under the stairs for the upper deck. I really needed it for my storage needs and it has turned out great. There is a place for a very small lock to be inserted if you need to keep children out of it. A good product.

.....when I read some of the mixed reviews on this product. I am a single mom and needed something in my kitchen for storage. This item appeared to be just what I needed. I read the reviews and was nervous to spend all that money! BUT, I took the chance and I am glad that I did. It is beautiful! I didn't find it difficult to put together at all. I assembled it in less than an hour with only myself and was watching the Cardinal baseball game in between! It seems very sturdy and serves a storage purpose efficiently. Definitely worth the money!

I was wanting something a little larger than what I got, and like other reviews, my husband was very cranky putting it together (yes, he needed my assistance). However, I needed a "functional" piece of furniture that would look nice in the living room and hide all of my toddler's toys, so it worked perfect in that aspect. I am toying with the idea of ordering another one to help balance the empty space of the living room wall that one doesn't accomplish...and of course to hide the many more toys that my daughter will undoubtedly accumulate over the next few years.

The finished shelf looks great, but was next to impossible to put together! My unit was missing a screw for the back, the middle shelf did not have pre-drilled holes (as the previous reviewer noted), one of the wooden dowels for holding the shelves in place was also missing, and one of the holes on the bottom shelf was not drilled straight, so the screw doesn't fit properly. Be forewarned: this shelf will take a LONG time to put together... the holes for the screws are hidden and close to the wood, which means you can only make one tiny fraction of a turn with the provided allen wrench at a time. It took me almost 2 hours to assemble.

This looks OK but it was really difficult to put together. Requires screwing in back panels into middle shelf which does not have predrilled holes, while holding all the pieces together. Needs 2 people.

I was a bit concern after reading other reviews on getting this shelf, but when it came in, I put it together in less than two hours, on my own. It helps if you have at hand a small hammer and a set of allen keys. The allen key that came with the cabinet did not fit great, my standard key fit better. I was also careful in not to completely tighten the screws until the piece is all set together, and that helped a lot. The final cabinet is sturdy and nicely finished, even the back panel is properly finished. It looks great!

Yes, this takes some time to assemble. Set aside a couple of hours for this. You'll want to be in a comfortable area and working on a hard, flat surface.

That said, it really isn't that difficult to put together. It's like a large erector set project. I've assembled three and have purchased two additional ones to help organize my storage room. If they are assembled properly, they are sturdy and I haven't any reason to think they wouldn't carry the advertised weight load of 750 pounds.

A FEW TIPS

* A magnetic Philips head ratcheting screwdriver and some needle nosed pliers (to hold the bolts) are a BIG help!

* Snap the plastic feet onto the bottom of the legs before you've assembled them. It's easier to do when they are still short.

* Lay two of the assembled legs on the floor and set the shelves at the desired spacing. I took the jars I wanted to store and counted how many holes tall they were on the legs. This left me with some extra space on the bottom shelves which was fine with me.

* Count holes on the legs when positioning shelves to make sure you haven't secured one or two corners of a shelf at a different level.

* Make SURE all of the shelves are facing the same direction. The back of the shelf has a hole on the edge. (No fun discovering this after all four corners are secured.)

* Only hand tighten the bolts. You want a little wiggle room to get the unit to level before you attach the braces. Even then, you'll just went to use hand tools as the areas you are working aren't large enough for power tools that might warp the unit.

* Add the final two legs to the shelf corners (counting holes) while the unit is still laying on the flat surface.

ABOUT BRACES

*To achieve the "X" on the back, you'll have to place 4 of the ends on a single bolt and screw hole on the back of one shelf. This works best if you lay the unit face down, rather than trying to hold the braces in place while you tighten the bolt.

*Stand the unit upright and check for level. Snug up all the bolts and screws and fix the braces into place following the picture on the box.

FEATURES I LIKE

* There are so many holes on the legs. This allows me to configure more than one unit in an "L" shape, adding more stability. I also have the option of bolting them into the wall to prevent any tipping.

* I like that the shelves are adjustable to suit my needs for storage space.

* The 12 inch depth of the shelves gives them a small footprint. The 30 inch length adds to this as well.

* The price is such that multiple units can be joined in many configurations.

NOT MY FAVORITE

* The tiny spaces to fit bolts and screws. It's not impossible, just a bit tedious and time-consuming. Not a deal-breaker for me, though.

This shelf is rated on the box as 750lb capacity at failure. Given it's construction, I don't see how anyone could even aproach this number. My wife got this unit from Home depot, where it is also advertised as ~1700lb. I would be surprised if you could get 40lb on one of these shelves. They buckle and bow with nearly any load. Might work for TP or tissue box storage. Do a model number search, you will see it with two different ratings, both way off what it really is.

You know the disposable heavy duty foil pans? This thing is a second cousin to them. Recently, I tripped and was off balance and caught myself on the edge of a shelf. I didn't fall on the thing, just balanced myself. The shelf I had my hand on buckled, dumping everything on it into the floor. I feel that I could craft a comparable product with a roll of aluminum foil and 20 minutes.

First off, let me say I own the heavy duty Edsal shelving unit rated to 4,000 lb capacity and not this particular model. However, I notice many claiming this is rated to 1750 lbs or approximately thereabouts. If you read carefully, this model is *not* rated that high. It is rated to 750 lbs over all... meaning approximately 107 lbs per SHELF. This makes it comparable to a plastic shelving unit but in a steel finish. If you want heavy duty I would suggest trying the UR185L model instead. I imagine this piece would be great in a kitchen or basement for extra storage of light items (DVDs, etc). For heavy tools and bins (such as in a garage) I would think you might want to consider something stronger. In my opinion I would much quicker spend $26 on this than $50 on a plastic unit. You get more shelves and they hold just as much. Not to mention the steel will last longer and generally look better.

Sonoma 48" Bookcase - 4 shelf

The wood is quality and easy enough to assemble, looks good. The only negative for me are the shelf brackets which are all plastic and rated 5 lbs per in capacity. I sheared off a couple putting text books in my class and have since been to the hardware store for metal posts (rated at 25 lbs per).

This is one of the worst pieces of furniture I've ever purchased. The materials and construction are subpar at best, and hardly worth $10, much less $100.

There is not one lick of solid wood in the entire package. The veneer would be attractive if it weren't poorly applied and peeling off the back edges of the bookshelf. Most of it is crafted from some kind of pressboard with the mechanical properties of lightly cooked spaghetti. The shelves bow under their own weight (forget about putting books on them!), and this contributes to the predictable failure of the equally awful cheap plastic shelf pegs.

If bumped, the whole bookshelf bends and flexes like a sprig of tall grass, threatening to collapse under its own weight. Even after I added 1x2 wood braces and metal angle brackets in key locations, I'm still somewhat hesitant to use this to store anything of value.

I would caution anyone thinking about buying this bookshelf for, *gasp*, books, to think very carefully before forking over any cash.

Many sellers for this bookcase on Amazon, all vary in price and shipping. Generally, the higher the price, the lower the shipping. Got mine from "Tots to Teens" without problem. When you receive it, it is very easy to put together and fairly solid with one glaring exception. The back panel is only wood-colored cardboard. Granted, the back of the cardboard is generally against a wall and the front (where the coloring matches the wood and grain) is partially hidden by shelves and contents, but still a disappointment. And it means being gentle if you ever need to move the bookcase.
