I was shopping for a garage ceiling storage system and, based upon the Amazon reviews, I settled on this one. I've been very happy. Not only was the HyLoft Overhead Storage System less expensive than others (and Amazon easily had the best price), I've found it to be very forgiving and very well designed.

The foundation of the HyLoft system are a pair of rigid trapeze like structures which hang down from the ceiling. They can be spaced any number of distances apart -wherever your ceiling joists (beams) are -which is very convenient. (With other systems, by contrast, the distances between the supports are fixed). What's also great about the HyLoft system is that it goes up in very small pieces. First the ceiling brackets, then the arms and cross-braces, and finally the three-piece grate which makes up the base. It's easily a one-man job, so no one needs to hang around to help hold the unit up against the ceiling for you.

Lastly, it's also not absolutely critical that everything be placed in exactly the right place. If you're off by a little here or you're a little crooked there, everything is still going to work out fine.

The most difficult part of the entire process is finding the edges of the joist, but this has been made easier too. Just get one of the newer stud finders from Zircon. Mine blinks and throws out a line of light when it reaches the EDGE of the joist. I use blue masking tape (rather than pencil) to keep my ceiling clean. Having both edges marked allowed me to hammer and drill with confidence. (I didn't make a single bad hole once!)

Each 45" x 45" unit is precisely sized to fit those 15 gallon red-topped plastic storage boxes one gets at Home Depot. Each HyLoft rack will hold a DOZEN boxes each! I had originally ordered the 4 ft. by 4 ft. HyLoft racks, but Amazon sent me the 45" x 45" version instead. But since each unit still held twelve storage boxes, I was just as happy! And the slightly smaller size gave me more room around the sides which made loading boxes into it that much easier.

I have a three-car garage with roll-up doors (one is a double), and I was able to put up five racks (fully extended to 27") in the area behind the garage door motors. That's 5 x 12 boxes or 60 boxes total storage! I was also able to mount two more racks towards the front above where the doors roll up into on the double-sized door. Since these were limited to 16" inches in depth, I was only able to hold another six boxes on each (twelve all together for both), for a total of 72 boxes of storage (or the rough equivalent when one takes into account the odd-size pieces of luggage, picnic coolers, tool boxes, and the like). This left my floor totally clear for bicycles and my lawnmower -which I had a hard time getting to earlier! (Needless to say, my garage was an absolute mess before I got the HyLofts!)

Since the HyLoft units are limited to about 250 pounds each, I put the heavier items in the front racks which could only hold a single layer of boxes.

My wife was exceptionally pleased but mainly because she was confident that we had rats living in and amongst all of the boxes. (We didn't, but I didn't mind that she thought that since it kept her out of the garage, and my little domain! "Hey honey, was that a rat?") Now she's talking about putting a billiards table or a ping pong table in the garage, so I guess making the change was definitely for the better.

The HyLoft Overhead Storage System is one that I would wholeheartedly recommend!

Truly awesome, and awe inspiring. I have two of these in my garage now, and I think I will eventually fill up most of my ceiling space with these HyLoft systems. They are a cinch to install, the hardest part for me was to find the studs in the ceiling to hang from. (Hint: if you have a crappy studfinder like I do that doesn't work through popcorn ceilings, just try banging nails into the ceiling every inch or two, until one sticks or is hard to pound in. That's the stud.)

Although I was a bit nervous at first standing/sitting under one of these overhead storage systems, both of my crappy installations have help up for 6 months or more, with no loosening, etc.

Their adjustability is nice, but maybe not really needed, after you have the system installed you're not going to really want to adjust the height of it, but I guess you can if you need to. I have it adjusted to about in the middle for height, and I can put full-size totes/rubbermaid storage bins on the shelfs, and have room for more of my clutter on top of them.

Maybe someday I will be able to park my car in my garage using these HyLoft systems.

This is a very sturdy product. It is sized such that 4 of these fit over a 16' wide garage door, allowing for the door opener track to go between the middle two. The challenging part of the install is getting the brackets installed into the studs. Stud sensors don't work really well when there are 2 sheets of drywall on the garage ceiling. Fortunately, the lag screws they provide are 2 1/2" or 3" long, so they are plenty long enough.

Here are 2 tips I learned the hard way:

1) If you install these as close to the front of your garage as possible you will increase the risk of the garage door hitting the shelves, requiring you to raise the shelves and decrease the max storage height. This is because the door is making the turn from vertical to horizontal right near the front of the garage and the leading edge of each door panel reaches its highest point as it is making the turn. This caused me to need to move the shelves up one hole (about 2"). In hindsight, I should have moved the shelves one more stud away from the front of the garage and I would have avoided this conflict, while still keeping all my stuff over the garage door (when the door is raised).

2) When installing the actual shelves, make sure that the long bars of each shelf are on top, and the shorter bars are on the bottom. This will make sliding items on/off the shelves easier.

I wish these were mentioned in the instructions. Since most of my items still fit on the shelves over the garage door, I don't think I am going to take these back down and reinstall them just to get the extra 2" back. However, I have 2 big plastic storage totes which don't fit now but could if I get the 2" back.

This is constructed of heavy duty steel, and is fairly easy (although frustrating at times) to install for one person. Installation takes about 1 to 1.5 hours for the first rack for someone relatively competent with simple tools, but might take longer depending on where it is being installed.

I installed mine on a ceiling with a step in it, where it changes height by about 10". I liked how I could adjust each support individually to the length I needed to hang halfway under the step of the ceiling. The starter nails to line up the small angle brackets on the ceiling were more trouble than they were worth as there was inadequate clearance for my hammer to get them in effectively. I gave up and just marked and drilled the holes for the support screws instead without using the nail. The nail is just for determining that you are in a stud, which I checked before hand.

Overall the installation is forgiving, you can be off about 1" on the measurements and still have a rack that fits, but this is only because my primary complaint about the design that follows.

Why I gave this 3 stars? The unit has no lateral support. It will swing a full 2" side to side because the vertical supports are just flat steel that are free to bend. Even fore-aft motion is only restrained by the bolts, so a strong bump would cause it to shift slightly forwards or backwards. The only direction that it supports weight is vertically, which is fine if you only use it for storage, but loading and unloading will cause the rack to swing. I will have to add some supports to prevent it from moving every time I load/unload wood.

The other reviews for this overhead storage system cover pretty much everything. This design (white racks pictured), is also the same that Lowes carries (grey and white). Sams club has a 2-pack of the same unit and design in chrome for about 100 dollars, saving you some money. But just recently I found these at Costco, but redesigned. Instead of flat metal strapping for the legs of the unit, they switched to a metal tube design. U-shaped and rigid makes the units very stable now, and easier to install. those were the two biggest problems I had with these orignal ones, 1) they sway too much when taking stuff up or down, and 2) they make for a very sloppy and uneven install since the legs and brackets are not rigid solid pieces. They are only available at Costco now, and only in chrome. The size is about the same, just short of 4 feet square. The price was 39.99 too, lower than these older designed ones. I highly recommend the newly designed units if you can find them at your local Costco, in the shelving isle. Now I can put stuff up and take it down without the swinging and swaying. It definetely feels more solid, like I could hang from the unit like monkey bars.

They're plastic, not metal, FYI. They come with screws and screw anchors, so you're going to need a drill. The birds fit over the screw like picture frames. It's a little bit challenging to make them completely flat to the wall.

This hook set is fantastic. I can't stop bragging about it to people who walk in my front door, while trying to get them to hang up their keys. I am especially impressed with the magnet-which is relatively strong for being so small. It can hold my keys (which are decently heavy)and my husbands keys as well. I have yet to come across a set of keys it can't hold. As for saying 'Beaks can hold notes' understand that they are talking about thin pieces of paper. I was hoping that they could hold mail but that is definitely not an option, they wouldn't even hold a single envelope. My only other issue is that they are not very deep, so if you have heavy winter coats they will not stay on because there isn't enough depth. All in all though these are a great buy and very functional. Highly recommended.

Sometimes a hook rack is problematic just because of its size, even though the design is appealing. No such trouble here; you can space these little guys exactly as you wish. Nice tight fit in the keyhole, and it's sturdy enough not to get bent out of shape in the placement process... I've struggled with big shelves with flimsier keyholes, so this is a pleasant surprise. The magnet is strong, just as depicted, and the hooks have great presence once in place.

they're pretty and lots of people like them. kids love them. but as the dad who had to install them, i gotta tell ya that these puppies require some skill to make sure they're tight. and even then, they twist from time to time. and i can imagine them getting loose in the future..

These little guys are great. The look, plus each has a magnet under its beak to hold keys, and also they can hold mail in their mouths if you'd like though I'm not sure I'll ever use that feature.

But as anyone who's hung coat hooks on drywall knows, sometimes heavier jackets can pull the screws right out of the wall. I recommend using heavy duty anchors instead of the ones provided. I used the #6 set that, according to the packaging, can hold up to 30 lbs. You'll need an electric screwdriver and a light hand to install these.

After you mount them, you might notice that the wall hooks tend to swivel a bit around the screw. I used double-stick tape to stabilize them. Now, they're perfect!

I ordered 5 of these shelves to fill an empty corner of my study and create a place to perch one of my satellite surround sound speakers as well as other momentos and knick knacks. Skip to the bottom if you have an un-square wall corner and are worried about installing these shelves!

First the bad stuff:

Of the 5 ordered, 3 had damaged corners. I suppose with some some wood glue, primer, and paint, I could have it looking good as new again, but I didn't order "instant" shelves to end up with a 3 hour project on my hands. I'm disappointed that I now have to return the damaged shelves and then probably re-order more than I need as I'm sure the next batch will also have damaged corners, and then return those that I don't need. Kind of a hassle. Also, the paint that came with the shelves was a little thin in some spots on some pieces, but otherwise decent.

Now the good stuff:

These shelves look pretty good once up. The details on the front are subtle enough to fit most decors. They also install easily, even with the modifications I had to make to fit my slightly un-square room. I used a level to make sure they were perfectly straight. The overall outcome looks very clean, I'm pleased.

Overall, 3 stars for a good product with an unfortunately high susceptability to damage during shipping.

NOTE: If you have unsquare corners as I did, installing these shelves only takes an extra 5 minutes each! The sides of the shelf which face the walls have a deep channel in them for the plastic pins to fit into once they've been pinned on the wall. This means it's very easy to sand down the side of the shelf to create any angle you desire. I made a template using the cardboard packaging that came with the shelf and found that if I drew a line from 1/8 of an inch inside from the 90 degree corner to the very point of one of the other corners, I could create an angle that fit my wall's corner exactly. (Around 95-100 degrees I'd guess) I used a mouse sander with 80 grit paper to make quick work of removing the material along the line I drew. I then shorted the plastic pin a bit using a razor blade and installed them as normal. They turn out great and the wider angle is imperceptible! I'll put up some pics after Amazon replaces my damaged shelves.

I was hesitant to order this product, but the installation only took a screwdriver and about 3 minutes of my time. The only downfall is this product assumes the walls in your house are square. The drywall here wasn't exactly square, so there is a 1/4" gap on one side. The shelf still performs as intended and was totally worth the money. It's only holding picture frames, but it feels like it could hold much more weight, even with the skewed corner angle.

I was a little taken aback by the price for this -$10.00 for one of these -because comparable items were a lot cheaper. However, this divider does the job, and the comparable items were just plain junk -they were either wobbly, or pieces snapped off easily or they would not stay fastened. Just like my ma used to say, you get what you pay for. I mean I looked around a lot for these dividers, and there are very few choices. Everything but these were junk. And I say that because, I ordered one of each of the choices (3) and tried them all out. I suggest you get these and forget the others.

They may be a little pricey. But they really help organizing wire shelving. I about 6 in a 3 levels of wire shleves I installed in my closet.

Everything was a mess trying to stack them up side by side, before getting these. But with these they now stack with no problems and everything looks very organized.

Though if your going to stack shorts or pants it's best to get the 8 inch version as these will fall over easily do the weight. The smaller 8 inch version holds up better with heavier clothing.

I bought this divider because the rating was pretty high, and I was worried about the other dividers wobbling.

Others have already stated this, but it deserves reiteration since the item description has not changed. This is NOT a pair of dividers. It is ONE divider, the description is very deceiving; and the fact that the description hasn't changed shows deception was the intent.

This divider doesn't work. The concept is good,but the execution is just sub-par. The hooks on the bottom of the divider, and the tension from the divider folded in half are suppose to hold this divider in place.

So, to sum up to the problems:

1. There just isn't enough tension to hold this divider in place once pressure from whatever it is you are trying to contain is applied. It just buckles.

2. The other problem is the hooks on the bottom of the divider are too small and too short to hold onto the wire shelf; if that wasn't enough the hooks are V shaped not C shaped, so they don't really grab hold of the wire shelf. When the divider starts to tilt there's nothing to keep it from tilting over.

Sure, once you get enough stuff piled up the divider stays in place, but so would a piece of cardboard. And, cardboard won't snag bulky sweaters unfortunate enough to be on the bottom of the stack. I personally don't like the look of cardboard, so I'm going to continue to look for another organization solution.

Thank goodness I bought this on Amazon, because it's going back.

I bought two of these. The first one was great and worked perfectly for my wire shelves. They had a long enough tail (I don't know the proper term) that attaches to your wire shelves and stayed upright even when I would bang against it, so I ordered a second one. This time the part that I'm calling the tail is the part going on my wire shelves. It was shorter on the second one that I purchased and every time I just touch that divider, it would fall over. It is very wobbly and very annoying when you are putting clothes away. They need better quality control on these things. If you get one that has a long enough part, it works perfectly and is not wobbly at all, but the one with the shorter part is pretty much useless.

Wire racks are difficult to keep organized. I was hoping that the purchase of these racks would help keep sweat shirts and t-shirts organized, and they have. Ok I ordered this item thinking it was a full size tv stand. But in all actuality it's not even tall enough to be called a tv stand. It's about as tall as the plugs in your walls and is made out of pressed fiber board and plastic. For the price it's not bad but I'd still pay more money for one that's taller and made out of better items.

3 Shelf Stackable Folding Bookcase - Walnut

I was very disappointed with this item, and it was the only product in many years of shopping at amazon that I had to return. I've bought more than 20 nearly identical bookcases from other sources, widely available on the web, made in Thailand. They require no assembly at all, just open and the shelves fall into place, and they are very sturdy. I ordered 6 of this slightly different product at a higher cost than average because I wanted them in a hurry, and amazon offered overnight shipping for something which usually takes two weeks to arrive. But this bookcase required two people more than an hour to assemble, none of the parts quite fit, and the one I did manage to assemble was wobbly, so I returned the other 5 (which took almost three weeks and many phone calls). It is a mystery that such a poorly designed product could survive the competition.

I was very pleased with my shelves. Easy to assemble, if you just follow the instructions. It may seem intuitive, but do yourself a favor and follow the instructions. They look great and are very sturdy. My only criticism is that the shelves are not walnut, but walnut veneer. My guess is that they are pine? If you read the product description in detail (I didn't) it does say "wood with walnut veneer." Muh. I still love them. (As a note, the system doesn't want me to add any tags to this product reviewd...that's Amazon for you!)

The Winsome Wood folding 3-tier bookcase used to be the best in its genre, and even beat the Apple Furniture version (now probably under some other manufacturer name: the type sold through Container Store). Now, this shelf is no longer crafted of beechwood. These used to be made of very beautifully articulated hardwood manufactured in Thailand and given excellent stains and laquer coats this was the case for over two decades. Now, they are produced in Vietnam of a light softwood without the tight grain, the stain job is amateur (sloppy) and there is no protective laquer coat. The underside of each shelf is no longer even sanded, and believe you me, this is obvious on the upper shelves if they are stacked two units high.

The overall result is something that looks okay only amongst furniture without a common "goal" or sense of arrangement, and then only so long as no weight is intended for the shelves. However, for those who are accustomed to the high expectations this company has created in the past decades, only disappointment will be had by units produced after 2010. My recent units were returned immediately.

These bookcases are v. functional. They can stand side by side or can be stacked. there is a metal piece that you screw onto the back to hold them together.

I have had 2 sets of these book cases and I can really recommend them. I use them stacked.

While it says that these shelfs are stackable they are NOT! There are no provisions on the upper side of the shelf to stack another them on top of it, in fact, its rounded up there so its impossible (unless serious self-assembling takes place). Assembling the shelf itself is also not done, you have to do it yourself and it is cumbersome, took me ca. 45 to 60 minutes. You get what you pay for. Once assembled though it is a well functioning shelf, nothing wrong with that.

I bought this for help with storing kids items, and it has worked great. I didn't have any trouble putting it together myself. In addition, I couldn't find one of the pieces after I opened the box. This allows for storing without having to stack the boxes on top of each other, which can, over time, deteriorate and weaken the boxes. How many times have you needed a file that was stored in the bottom box of a stack of boxes that are 4 or 5 boxes high? This system eliminates that problem! I love this product so much I bought two and would highly recommend it to anyone.

We've had a problem with accumulating files for years. Regular file boxes are too weak to stack well, and when you have to move several boxes to get at the box on the bottom -well, it just doesn't work.

I started with two of the storage systems. They are made of PVC pipe in three sizes that has been cut and drilled. You get a big bag of screws, too. An electric drill/screwdriver is essential because you're going to turn in about a hundred of them. The first one I built took some head scratching and reading the directions VERY carefully, but if you pay close attention, you won't make any mistakes. The second one I built was a breeze. By the way, the file box system MUST be attached to a wall to stand securely and hold the weight of 18 file boxes.

In use, they are a dream. Boxes slide easily into their slots, they remove easily from the slots, and if you set up a table nearby to hold a few boxes at a time, you can easily sort and tidy up the contents of the boxes, then put them back in their slots.

I have accumulated lots of file boxes with books and paper. This rack holds them fine and keeps them out of the way in my garage. Much better than trying to stack boxes on each other with the top I can put six boxes in a column. Its a bit tedious to put together, but when I bought a second one my experience with the first made it go easier. Give yourself an hour and use a drill bit not a screw driver. You get the time back when pulling them out easily later. A few non-standard boxes I had are an inch or two too tall for the rack, but I put those on top.

This unit stores 3 standard bankers boxes per row. Takes a while to assemble, but all you need is an electric screwdriver or drill with phillips bit. For safety, it absolutely must be attached to the wall with the provided brackets and screws. Wall anchors for drywall are also provided, although you may need to attach to other types of wall. A lot of pieces, which fit or tap together, and then are secured with small screws so it will not pull apart. Once in place, 4 brackets fix it to the wall so it cannot be knocked over. Seems to carry the weight of full file boxes without growning. Our office policy will not permit storing overhead, so we just use 5 rows, or 15 boxes. No mechanical reason I can see that it cannot hold the full 18 boxes. This small footprint saves a lot of mess and leaves every box accessible.

ClosetMaid 2662000 White Wire Shelving Wall Bracket

After living in my apartment for over 13 years, one of the end bracket mounts broke in my bedroom closet leaving me with only half a closet and a lot of clothes on the closet floor! I certainly could've called the maintenance person to fix it but when I found this product on Amazon, it was inexpensive and Amazon Prime eligible so I ordered it.

It arrived on time and after reading the instructions, it was super easy to fix the shelf/rack in the closet. There aren't any screws at all. The set comes with the anchors shown and what look like screws are actually pins. You drill the two 1/4" pilot holes in the proper place, set the shelving in the bracket, place the bracket against the wall and push the anchors through the holes. Once the anchors are in place, you use something strong (I used the rubberized end of a screwdriver handle) to push the pins into the anchors, which opens them up inside the wall, securing the bracket.

All in all, it took me about 5 or 6 mintues and, voila, my closet shelf and rack are good as new!

They are what they are! They work, But I wish they would mention what size shelves these are for. They are made for the larger ones, not the standard small wire shelving.
