HyLoft 540 45-Inch-by-45-Inch Overhead Storage System, White

HyLoft 540 45-Inch-by-45-Inch Overhead Storage System, WhiteI was shopping for a garage ceiling storage system and, based upon the Amazon reviews, I settled on this one. I've been very happy. Not only was the HyLoft Overhead Storage System less expensive than others (and Amazon easily had the best price), I've found it to be very forgiving and very well designed.

The foundation of the HyLoft system are a pair of rigid trapeze like structures which hang down from the ceiling. They can be spaced any number of distances apart -wherever your ceiling joists (beams) are -which is very convenient. (With other systems, by contrast, the distances between the supports are fixed). What's also great about the HyLoft system is that it goes up in very small pieces. First the ceiling brackets, then the arms and cross-braces, and finally the three-piece grate which makes up the base. It's easily a one-man job, so no one needs to hang around to help hold the unit up against the ceiling for you.

Lastly, it's also not absolutely critical that everything be placed in exactly the right place. If you're off by a little here or you're a little crooked there, everything is still going to work out fine.

The most difficult part of the entire process is finding the edges of the joist, but this has been made easier too. Just get one of the newer stud finders from Zircon. Mine blinks and throws out a line of light when it reaches the EDGE of the joist. I use blue masking tape (rather than pencil) to keep my ceiling clean. Having both edges marked allowed me to hammer and drill with confidence. (I didn't make a single bad hole once!)

Each 45" x 45" unit is precisely sized to fit those 15 gallon red-topped plastic storage boxes one gets at Home Depot. Each HyLoft rack will hold a DOZEN boxes each! I had originally ordered the 4 ft. by 4 ft. HyLoft racks, but Amazon sent me the 45" x 45" version instead. But since each unit still held twelve storage boxes, I was just as happy! And the slightly smaller size gave me more room around the sides which made loading boxes into it that much easier.

I have a three-car garage with roll-up doors (one is a double), and I was able to put up five racks (fully extended to 27") in the area behind the garage door motors. That's 5 x 12 boxes or 60 boxes total storage! I was also able to mount two more racks towards the front above where the doors roll up into on the double-sized door. Since these were limited to 16" inches in depth, I was only able to hold another six boxes on each (twelve all together for both), for a total of 72 boxes of storage (or the rough equivalent when one takes into account the odd-size pieces of luggage, picnic coolers, tool boxes, and the like). This left my floor totally clear for bicycles and my lawnmower -which I had a hard time getting to earlier! (Needless to say, my garage was an absolute mess before I got the HyLofts!)

Since the HyLoft units are limited to about 250 pounds each, I put the heavier items in the front racks which could only hold a single layer of boxes.

My wife was exceptionally pleased but mainly because she was confident that we had rats living in and amongst all of the boxes. (We didn't, but I didn't mind that she thought that since it kept her out of the garage, and my little domain! "Hey honey, was that a rat?") Now she's talking about putting a billiards table or a ping pong table in the garage, so I guess making the change was definitely for the better.

The HyLoft Overhead Storage System is one that I would wholeheartedly recommend!

Truly awesome, and awe inspiring. I have two of these in my garage now, and I think I will eventually fill up most of my ceiling space with these HyLoft systems. They are a cinch to install, the hardest part for me was to find the studs in the ceiling to hang from. (Hint: if you have a crappy studfinder like I do that doesn't work through popcorn ceilings, just try banging nails into the ceiling every inch or two, until one sticks or is hard to pound in. That's the stud.)

Although I was a bit nervous at first standing/sitting under one of these overhead storage systems, both of my crappy installations have help up for 6 months or more, with no loosening, etc.

Their adjustability is nice, but maybe not really needed, after you have the system installed you're not going to really want to adjust the height of it, but I guess you can if you need to. I have it adjusted to about in the middle for height, and I can put full-size totes/rubbermaid storage bins on the shelfs, and have room for more of my clutter on top of them.

Maybe someday I will be able to park my car in my garage using these HyLoft systems.

Nah, I'll just probably buy more crap.

From Amazon.

This is a very sturdy product. It is sized such that 4 of these fit over a 16' wide garage door, allowing for the door opener track to go between the middle two. The challenging part of the install is getting the brackets installed into the studs. Stud sensors don't work really well when there are 2 sheets of drywall on the garage ceiling. Fortunately, the lag screws they provide are 2 1/2" or 3" long, so they are plenty long enough.

Here are 2 tips I learned the hard way:

1) If you install these as close to the front of your garage as possible you will increase the risk of the garage door hitting the shelves, requiring you to raise the shelves and decrease the max storage height. This is because the door is making the turn from vertical to horizontal right near the front of the garage and the leading edge of each door panel reaches its highest point as it is making the turn. This caused me to need to move the shelves up one hole (about 2"). In hindsight, I should have moved the shelves one more stud away from the front of the garage and I would have avoided this conflict, while still keeping all my stuff over the garage door (when the door is raised).

2) When installing the actual shelves, make sure that the long bars of each shelf are on top, and the shorter bars are on the bottom. This will make sliding items on/off the shelves easier.

I wish these were mentioned in the instructions. Since most of my items still fit on the shelves over the garage door, I don't think I am going to take these back down and reinstall them just to get the extra 2" back. However, I have 2 big plastic storage totes which don't fit now but could if I get the 2" back.

This is constructed of heavy duty steel, and is fairly easy (although frustrating at times) to install for one person. Installation takes about 1 to 1.5 hours for the first rack for someone relatively competent with simple tools, but might take longer depending on where it is being installed.

I installed mine on a ceiling with a step in it, where it changes height by about 10". I liked how I could adjust each support individually to the length I needed to hang halfway under the step of the ceiling. The starter nails to line up the small angle brackets on the ceiling were more trouble than they were worth as there was inadequate clearance for my hammer to get them in effectively. I gave up and just marked and drilled the holes for the support screws instead without using the nail. The nail is just for determining that you are in a stud, which I checked before hand.

Overall the installation is forgiving, you can be off about 1" on the measurements and still have a rack that fits, but this is only because my primary complaint about the design that follows.

Why I gave this 3 stars? The unit has no lateral support. It will swing a full 2" side to side because the vertical supports are just flat steel that are free to bend. Even fore-aft motion is only restrained by the bolts, so a strong bump would cause it to shift slightly forwards or backwards. The only direction that it supports weight is vertically, which is fine if you only use it for storage, but loading and unloading will cause the rack to swing. I will have to add some supports to prevent it from moving every time I load/unload wood.

The other reviews for this overhead storage system cover pretty much everything. This design (white racks pictured), is also the same that Lowes carries (grey and white). Sams club has a 2-pack of the same unit and design in chrome for about 100 dollars, saving you some money. But just recently I found these at Costco, but redesigned. Instead of flat metal strapping for the legs of the unit, they switched to a metal tube design. U-shaped and rigid makes the units very stable now, and easier to install. those were the two biggest problems I had with these orignal ones, 1) they sway too much when taking stuff up or down, and 2) they make for a very sloppy and uneven install since the legs and brackets are not rigid solid pieces. They are only available at Costco now, and only in chrome. The size is about the same, just short of 4 feet square. The price was 39.99 too, lower than these older designed ones. I highly recommend the newly designed units if you can find them at your local Costco, in the shelving isle. Now I can put stuff up and take it down without the swinging and swaying. It definetely feels more solid, like I could hang from the unit like monkey bars.

Bookcase with "X" Shape in Cappuccino Finish

Bookcase with 'X' Shape in Cappuccino FinishThis bookcase was a very unique set that I love having in my room. It is a beautiful piece and was not hard to assemble. This is definitely a style I love. It isn't the sturdiest bookcase ever and it doesn't have sides [which I did not think about until I got it], so I bought decorative bookends for it and it looks great.

Very heavy bookcase, so that is a plus! Great style and brings out the elegance in any room. Coaster has improve their products and I am one happy customer.

This item arrived in mint condition!I was afraid of recieving something broken for the amount of money I spent on the product and shipping. I have to say that I was not dissapointed at all. The bookcase was well packaged, and not a single scratch on the bookcase!. It's a beautiful piece, with great finish. It does not look cheap at all, not to mention,it adds a sense of class to your home. I do have to add that it took quite awhile for delivery, but i guess that's what you get for standard shipping. Sandusky Lee KDE7236-07 Putty Steel SnapIt Storage Cabinet, Keyless Electronic Lock, 4 Adjustable S

Sandusky Lee KDE7236-07 Putty Steel SnapIt Storage Cabinet, Keyless Electronic Lock, 4 Adjustable Shelves, 72' Height x 36' Width x 18' Depth
  • Steel cabinet with four adjustable shelves and a 180 lb. per shelf capacity suitable for storage
  • Two hinged doors with full-length stiffeners for strength and a keyless electronic locking handle for security
  • Keyless electronic lock has two programmable passwords and, for security, keeps records of when the unit was accessed
  • Includes external back-up battery to run electronic keypad during power failure, and two bypass keys for use if electronic lock fails
  • Assembly required, instructions included, tools for assembly sold separately

I purchased this cabinet because I liked the idea of it snapping together and not requiring putting screws in inaccessible locations. Also, the keyless electronic coded lock appealed because the cabinet is being used to store items that are required to be under "lock and key." The cabinet was relatively easy to put together; my wife and I did in under two hours. We only made one error which was easily remedied, and that was because we didn't read the graphic instructions carefully. The cabinet is reasonably strong and when locked is reasonably difficult to enter. The electronic lock works quite well. I would have given this item a five star rating except for the packaging. The packaging is quite flimsy and not adequate given the weight of the steel parts within it. As a result some of the parts were dented, but I was able to straighten them out so that we could complete the assembly. Overall we find it to be a good purchase but not pleased with how it was packaged; the parts simply were not adequately protected.

Assembly directions could be a lot better, particularly for the electronic lock mechanism. In fact, I do not believe that the instructions were 100% appropriate for the lock provided. However, the lock was easy enough to learn and to use. Two people would make the assembly easier but I did it myself. The shelves seem sturdy and I have all of them heavily loaded. The one improvement to suggest is something to make the unit more rigid as it does flex a bit from side to side, especially when the shelves are not heavily loaded. Such as a cross-brace across the back side, either inside or out.

We've now had this thing for a few weeks. The separate delivery company is a pain as they give you a 4 hour window of time and you have to be home to sign for it. It took 3 people a couple hours to put together. The user manual is for several model numbers so it was hard to follow. The electronic locking mechanism is not working (now that we have it together, of course!) and we are in circles with the mfg to try to get it fixed. Overall, not yet happy but cross my fingers it gets worked out.

BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN MICROWAVE SHELF W. OUTLET IN BLACK

BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN MICROWAVE SHELF W. OUTLET IN BLACKPros:

Good value

Looks nice overall

Looks mostly like in the picture

Convenient design with space for a variety of items

You can pull out the second shelf, but it is well-built enough to not just roll back and forth unintentionally.

I really like the siding that prevents items from falling off.

Several outlets

Would take under an hour for one person to put it together, if you got everything right the first time around.

Without the wheels, it's a very stable, solid piece. More so than I would've expected for the low price.

Cons:

The shelves are not actually made of the wood they appear to be made of, that's just a thin layer on top of some other cheap wood. Only noticeable if you stand close to it though, which visitors probably wouldn't do.

Contrary to what the picture suggests (some white stuff, whatever that is in the picture), the sides and back of the shelf are made of cheap, thin black plastic, which is clearly visible if you look at the cart from the side.

The outlets are only 2-pronged, which makes this microwave cart useless for most microwaves unless you have more outlets to spare in the area. However, I knew this beforehand, so I made an informed decision to buy it.

Approx. 80 pieces. The instructions consisted of nothing but TWO drawings, no words, no photos. You can imagine how difficult it is to determine what goes where and in which order. I even had to look at the photo online to establish which piece in the drawing is a metal shelf, which wood.

Had to redo a number of pieces because they require a specific order. Unfortunately, with only two pictures, there is no way to establish the order from the instructions. Kind of a hit/miss process as you put it together. I wasted 30-45 minutes doing things in the wrong order.

There were no screws small enough to go through the tiny holes in the metal to attach the power outlet. I'll have to go buy some.

Some pieces were not accounted for in either the list of pieces or in the drawing, yet were essential if you want to get the wheels onto the cart. The letter indicated in the picture for the wheels was not the correct letter (no illustration there of wheels + pieces, just three letters and an arrow pointing to where they go). It referred to screws, when all you need is four large black plastic pieces that were non-existent on paper.

There were scratches on the metal, and one metal piece was bent, as though they had been used before, taken apart, and re-packaged for the next customer. I don't care that much since we just need it temporarily for a rental, but this might bother some people.

Conclusion: I don't regret buying this piece and I'm glad I have it because it makes up for a serious lack of counter space in this house. And considering the price, I still thing this item is good value. I just wish the instructions had been made (a LOT) better, and that the wood+plastic were a little nicer looking (and not damaged). I recommend buying this piece, just as long as you are aware of what you're getting.

I love this thing, my only complaint is that the electric strip in the back only has two prong holes, which is no good for our microwave or toaster oven...which somewhat cancels out any point in it having an electric outlet in it to start with.

Lumisource TV-TS-105 36.5in. Metro TV Stand, Dark Wood Veneer

Lumisource TV-TS-105 36.5in. Metro TV Stand, Dark Wood Veneer
  • Assembly Required Yes
  • Material Wood
  • Style Contemporary
  • Finish Dark Wood
  • Assembled Size Dimensions 36.5 L x 22 W x 44 H (bracket)

I ordered this stand to go into a small space in my living room. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the wood, I expected it to be cheaper looking, but this was well made and thick layers of real wood with a dark veneer, not chipboard. I have cherry furniture with a slight reddish tint and while this is dark veneer, it is not cherry tinted at all. The image online looks to be a close match to my furniture (at least on my computer), but it actually a mid level to dark walnut color. There is also some wood grain detailing that isn't too obvious in the images. One other note is that the holes for the cords are not optimally placed. I used the shelf for a DVD player and a Tivo Premiere box. These fit well, but there isn't a hole for these cords located near the shelf. I have the cords coming off the back of the boxes and cinched back and pulled into the center cord holding area. There is a hole under the tv, but it was also a bit low for my 42 inch tv and again I just pulled the cord back. We don't have anything of the bottom shelf yet, but it seems like that hole at least is placed well. The holes are quite large and you can see some cords hanging down through the holes. I am considering placing some kind of backing over the holes, but maybe I will just leave it, doesn't look that bad. This was easy to assemble, but would be difficult without two people.

SMART SHELF CORNER SHELVES SET OF 3

SMART SHELF CORNER SHELVES SET OF 3[I'm raising my rating by a star simply to alert any prospective consumer that this one is 1. better looking and 2. sturdier than some otherwise near-identical instant shelves "advertised on TV" and sold on Amazon. If you want to give one a try--for holding magazines, books, an antenna or cheap speaker, etc., and certainly nothing breakable, this is most likely your best bet.]

Ever strike you as odd that the makers of the most disposable gadgets use television to sell their wares, then try to get extra bang for their buck by advertising the same thing on a site like Amazon with the endorsement: "As seen on TV!" I haven't seen the ad for this one (iPods and books have become more attractive alternatives to insomnia than telemarketing as seen on a high definition, 1080 pixel flat screen). I can just imagine the television ad--a calm housewife very smoothly, deftly, and easily attaching these shelves to every nook and cranny in the house with one effortless spin of the dial--no strain, no pain, no damage to the fingernails.

Wake-up call. They're not that easy to screw in (make that "knife in") to your walls, especially if the material is not porous plywood (or even cardboard). So after turning red several times over, I managed to get the blades to wedge into the corner walls--sort of. I'm fairly confident the shelf will stay up--though expecting it to hold anything weighing more than an ounce or two may be asking for a bit much. The picture on the box shows shelves loaded down with stereo speakers, a dozen CD jewel cases, a short-wave radio (it had better be battery-operated, because there's no place for a cord to go up the back side of the shelf).

The instructions for "SmartShelf" say "holds nine pounds," and even provide additional pictures of potted plants, tools, glass vases. Dream on. Still, I figured $5 per shelf would be worth it if I could get each shelf to hold a single book or magazine that I was in the process of reading (please don't put your laptop computer on the shelf and expect Apple to repair it, in or out of warranty). I've noticed that magazine publishers are reducing the number of pages and enlarging the print of their publications--so maybe it has a chance of fulfilling my wildest dreams. If not, we could all use a bit of extra suspense in our lives now and then. (Just don't ram it into a corner where kitty can take a shot at practicing his standing leap.)

I bought these shelves because I needed something and really couldn't afford the nicer made shelves. Well it was a complete waste of time. I got them to stay up on the first try, but 5 minutes later everything came crashing down. Now I can't get them to stay even on the wooden panel walls in the livingroom. Don't make the same mistake I did.

ive had one of these mounted in the corner by my bed for ages and ages. it holds a small bedside lamp and a book and some other junk just fine. i have seen these advertised on tv, and the advertisement makes it look easier to install than it really is. it is difficult to press and lock the shelf into the wall, but once you do it right, it's very sturdy. there's a trick: once you get it into place and are ready to lock it to the wall, you'll want to use an object other than your bare fingers to do the job, and you have to press pretty firmly. it takes some muscle. i used a flat head screw driver instead of my fingers to press the lock in. it also helps to have someone hold it in place for you. if you actually press it hard enough to the lock position, [ and if youre paying attention to what youre doing you can see that it is locked in place] it will not come crashing down. mine never has. you just have to pay attention. really, it isnt as easy as it looks on tv but if you install it *all the way, and properly* it will serve as a sturdy place to keep stuff in a low traffic area. just a reminder, be careful of the razors. :)

Knape & Vogt 208 TI 550 Ultimate "L" Bracket Titanium 22"

Knape & Vogt 208 TI 550 Ultimate 'L' Bracket Titanium 22'I ordered 8 to put up a couple 8 ft. long, 2 ft. deep plywood shelves in the garage. They installed fine and appear to be consistent in quality and dimensions.

I installed them through sheet-rock into studs, and you'll need 3 lag bolts per bracket to install. I used 3 1/2 inch long, 5/16 inch lag screws. To affix the shelf to the bracket, I used 1 inch #8 machine screws and bolts that I countersunk flush with the plywood. You can use up to 3 screws per bracket to affix the shelf, but I only used two.

As some other reviewer mentioned, if you are concerned about the appearance, they are painted a gray-ish silver. Do not expect to get "shiny" stainless steel or aluminum type look that the picture indicates.

In the end...it's a shelf bracket! But I had no luck finding any this size at my local DIY store...Amazon to the rescue again!

They worked great for me but I did notice that they are not a perfect 90 degrees. I mounted them as advised with 3" 5/16 lag screws. I used two of them with a ¾" thick 22" X 24" plywood board and mounted my 80 pound air compressor on the garage wall.

Seville Classics She05122 11-1/2-Inch by 17-1/2-Inch by 18-1/2-Inch Stackable Kitchen Cabinet Organ

Seville Classics She05122 11-1/2-Inch by 17-1/2-Inch by 18-1/2-Inch Stackable Kitchen Cabinet OrganizerAwesome! My kitchen broom closet is now organized! Everything now has a bin or shelf where it goes. I bought 2 so I could stack them on top of each other. When I received them, my husband rolled his eyes, however, he did assemble them for me. I went to work organizing them and then showed him the closet, and he couldn't believe what a difference it made. They are sturdy and attractive, and the pull-out bins are great, because I can reach everything in the back now. I recommend these! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because there's no "stopper" to stop the bin from falling out when you pull it forward you have to be careful not to pull it out too far so it doesn't fall on the floor.

I happened across this little organizer when I was flipping through Amazon.com and am so glad I found it. It goes a long way towards organizing a particularly messy broom closet that I had converted to a utility cabinet. Holds lots of potatoes in the bottom basket, plenty of onions in the top basket and I still have room for my bread machine on the top shelf, when it is not being used. In addition, the wire basket allows air circulation through my potatoes and onions and seems to extend their useful life. I am most pleased.

I'm not real happy with these, although they'll do. I've put many, many pieces of furniture and shelving units together and it's a good thing because the directions, although adequate left some information out. I've gotten other shelving that look and go together almost exactly like this little unit and they are MUCH better quality. They are stable but the plastic legs to stack these, well, one broke. Thank goodness I had ordered two to stack one on top of the other so I had extra plastic pieces I could use to stack them.

For me, they were a lot smaller than I had envisioned. Mostly because, even though I had measured, I hadn't taken into account that these measurements were outside dimensions and the drawers themselves are much smaller. My fault. Still, for the price they just aren't worth it. Now if they had been $15 or even $20 each, I would be much happier. These little shelves are cute, fairly stable and definitely overpriced.

This organizer works well under my kitchen sink. It seems happily stable, and I haven't pulled a drawer out of its runners by mistake yet. Putting it together the first time was another matter, however. The directions are scant and somewhat ill-conceived. In fact, for part of the construction, you're pretty much on your own to figure it out. Once it's put together (at last!), it does its job well. I do think it wastes some space; the drawers have space on the frame to have been a little deeper (see photo to see what I mean). I use it mainly for holding sponges and the like, so I can't attest to its overall strength. I don't think I'd trust it with heavy items but I haven't made the attempt, so who knows. Just remember: don't keep your potatoes near your onions.
