HyLoft 540 45-Inch-by-45-Inch Overhead Storage System, White

I was shopping for a garage ceiling storage system and, based upon the Amazon reviews, I settled on this one. I've been very happy. Not only was the HyLoft Overhead Storage System less expensive than others (and Amazon easily had the best price), I've found it to be very forgiving and very well designed.

The foundation of the HyLoft system are a pair of rigid trapeze like structures which hang down from the ceiling. They can be spaced any number of distances apart -wherever your ceiling joists (beams) are -which is very convenient. (With other systems, by contrast, the distances between the supports are fixed). What's also great about the HyLoft system is that it goes up in very small pieces. First the ceiling brackets, then the arms and cross-braces, and finally the three-piece grate which makes up the base. It's easily a one-man job, so no one needs to hang around to help hold the unit up against the ceiling for you.

Lastly, it's also not absolutely critical that everything be placed in exactly the right place. If you're off by a little here or you're a little crooked there, everything is still going to work out fine.

The most difficult part of the entire process is finding the edges of the joist, but this has been made easier too. Just get one of the newer stud finders from Zircon. Mine blinks and throws out a line of light when it reaches the EDGE of the joist. I use blue masking tape (rather than pencil) to keep my ceiling clean. Having both edges marked allowed me to hammer and drill with confidence. (I didn't make a single bad hole once!)

Each 45" x 45" unit is precisely sized to fit those 15 gallon red-topped plastic storage boxes one gets at Home Depot. Each HyLoft rack will hold a DOZEN boxes each! I had originally ordered the 4 ft. by 4 ft. HyLoft racks, but Amazon sent me the 45" x 45" version instead. But since each unit still held twelve storage boxes, I was just as happy! And the slightly smaller size gave me more room around the sides which made loading boxes into it that much easier.

I have a three-car garage with roll-up doors (one is a double), and I was able to put up five racks (fully extended to 27") in the area behind the garage door motors. That's 5 x 12 boxes or 60 boxes total storage! I was also able to mount two more racks towards the front above where the doors roll up into on the double-sized door. Since these were limited to 16" inches in depth, I was only able to hold another six boxes on each (twelve all together for both), for a total of 72 boxes of storage (or the rough equivalent when one takes into account the odd-size pieces of luggage, picnic coolers, tool boxes, and the like). This left my floor totally clear for bicycles and my lawnmower -which I had a hard time getting to earlier! (Needless to say, my garage was an absolute mess before I got the HyLofts!)

Since the HyLoft units are limited to about 250 pounds each, I put the heavier items in the front racks which could only hold a single layer of boxes.

My wife was exceptionally pleased but mainly because she was confident that we had rats living in and amongst all of the boxes. (We didn't, but I didn't mind that she thought that since it kept her out of the garage, and my little domain! "Hey honey, was that a rat?") Now she's talking about putting a billiards table or a ping pong table in the garage, so I guess making the change was definitely for the better.

The HyLoft Overhead Storage System is one that I would wholeheartedly recommend!

Truly awesome, and awe inspiring. I have two of these in my garage now, and I think I will eventually fill up most of my ceiling space with these HyLoft systems. They are a cinch to install, the hardest part for me was to find the studs in the ceiling to hang from. (Hint: if you have a crappy studfinder like I do that doesn't work through popcorn ceilings, just try banging nails into the ceiling every inch or two, until one sticks or is hard to pound in. That's the stud.)

Although I was a bit nervous at first standing/sitting under one of these overhead storage systems, both of my crappy installations have help up for 6 months or more, with no loosening, etc.

Their adjustability is nice, but maybe not really needed, after you have the system installed you're not going to really want to adjust the height of it, but I guess you can if you need to. I have it adjusted to about in the middle for height, and I can put full-size totes/rubbermaid storage bins on the shelfs, and have room for more of my clutter on top of them.

Maybe someday I will be able to park my car in my garage using these HyLoft systems.

This is a very sturdy product. It is sized such that 4 of these fit over a 16' wide garage door, allowing for the door opener track to go between the middle two. The challenging part of the install is getting the brackets installed into the studs. Stud sensors don't work really well when there are 2 sheets of drywall on the garage ceiling. Fortunately, the lag screws they provide are 2 1/2" or 3" long, so they are plenty long enough.

Here are 2 tips I learned the hard way:

1) If you install these as close to the front of your garage as possible you will increase the risk of the garage door hitting the shelves, requiring you to raise the shelves and decrease the max storage height. This is because the door is making the turn from vertical to horizontal right near the front of the garage and the leading edge of each door panel reaches its highest point as it is making the turn. This caused me to need to move the shelves up one hole (about 2"). In hindsight, I should have moved the shelves one more stud away from the front of the garage and I would have avoided this conflict, while still keeping all my stuff over the garage door (when the door is raised).

2) When installing the actual shelves, make sure that the long bars of each shelf are on top, and the shorter bars are on the bottom. This will make sliding items on/off the shelves easier.

I wish these were mentioned in the instructions. Since most of my items still fit on the shelves over the garage door, I don't think I am going to take these back down and reinstall them just to get the extra 2" back. However, I have 2 big plastic storage totes which don't fit now but could if I get the 2" back.

This is constructed of heavy duty steel, and is fairly easy (although frustrating at times) to install for one person. Installation takes about 1 to 1.5 hours for the first rack for someone relatively competent with simple tools, but might take longer depending on where it is being installed.

I installed mine on a ceiling with a step in it, where it changes height by about 10". I liked how I could adjust each support individually to the length I needed to hang halfway under the step of the ceiling. The starter nails to line up the small angle brackets on the ceiling were more trouble than they were worth as there was inadequate clearance for my hammer to get them in effectively. I gave up and just marked and drilled the holes for the support screws instead without using the nail. The nail is just for determining that you are in a stud, which I checked before hand.

Overall the installation is forgiving, you can be off about 1" on the measurements and still have a rack that fits, but this is only because my primary complaint about the design that follows.

Why I gave this 3 stars? The unit has no lateral support. It will swing a full 2" side to side because the vertical supports are just flat steel that are free to bend. Even fore-aft motion is only restrained by the bolts, so a strong bump would cause it to shift slightly forwards or backwards. The only direction that it supports weight is vertically, which is fine if you only use it for storage, but loading and unloading will cause the rack to swing. I will have to add some supports to prevent it from moving every time I load/unload wood.

The other reviews for this overhead storage system cover pretty much everything. This design (white racks pictured), is also the same that Lowes carries (grey and white). Sams club has a 2-pack of the same unit and design in chrome for about 100 dollars, saving you some money. But just recently I found these at Costco, but redesigned. Instead of flat metal strapping for the legs of the unit, they switched to a metal tube design. U-shaped and rigid makes the units very stable now, and easier to install. those were the two biggest problems I had with these orignal ones, 1) they sway too much when taking stuff up or down, and 2) they make for a very sloppy and uneven install since the legs and brackets are not rigid solid pieces. They are only available at Costco now, and only in chrome. The size is about the same, just short of 4 feet square. The price was 39.99 too, lower than these older designed ones. I highly recommend the newly designed units if you can find them at your local Costco, in the shelving isle. Now I can put stuff up and take it down without the swinging and swaying. It definetely feels more solid, like I could hang from the unit like monkey bars.

this product was great, I like the design and is very easy to set up. you can also choose how high or low you can put the shelves so it fits if your decoration is small or big, or if you want to put a home theater or a blue ray or etc..

The only thing I didn't like was that in order to have options of the different heights of the shelves the sides have holes that are not painted, so if you order a dark paint product like I did it will be notice. I had to paint them myself or find some covers to put in there so it wouldnt be notice.

This stand was made with consumers like me in mind. I am no rocket scientist, or should I say structural engineer, so my forte is not in assembling furniture. This went together in less than an hour with little gnashing of teeth or swear words that I would feel bad about later. This is a basic stand with no bells and whistles. I bought it for my bedroom, but I will end up putting it in another room when I find another higher stand. If you are using in a bedroom, this is too low to comfortably watch TV and aim the remotes.

This is a very solid product, very sturdy, and looks great in my living room. Contrary to some review I had no problems with assembly, you may have to stray from the directions a tad to fit your own way of doing things, but you get the same end result. My only issue with the desk is that from some angles you can still see the particle board texture instead of the black, but once you put things on the shelves its really not noticeable.

Fits my Blu-Ray player, XBOX 360, Wii, speakers, 46" TV and controllers for the game systems.

This stand was easy to put together by myself and looks great. Quite sturdy with: a 53" TV and wireless cable modem/router on top, DVR, XBOX 360, PS3 and some books all neatly organized below. I was very pleased with this purchase.

I turned to this stand because anything else that was rated to support my 130 lbs plasma TV and a few components was hundreds of $$. This stand fits the bill extremely well for a great price and looks amazing as well. It is very sturdy and the TV feels solid on the stand.

The only negatives I would throw in are that the shelf support holes could be painted black as an earlier reviewer mentioned, as could the side panels (they are painted black on three sides, and stand out when viewed from the side). And I could have used another 3 inches in width as my receiver and the base of the TV "hang off" the rear edge. The receiver's rubber feet are stable on the shelf, but the TV does not sit on all of its base area (if that makes sense).

Was not the easiest to install, but I'm not the handiest with power tools either. That said, I'm purchasing another because these are a great way to store my linen tableclothes without getting stress folds.

Double TV Top Shelf

We bought a combo TV (TV/VCR/DVD) for the bedroom and needed a place to put our Tivo unit. The TV has a large footprint, but not much flat space on top. I looked and looked for a simple shelf to put on top to hold the Tivo unit, but amazingly couldn't find much. This shelf does the job perfectly. There's also a second shelf to put dvd's, videos, etc. One nice feature is the double sided adhesive they put on all four legs, so the shelf doesn't slide around and fall off the TV.

The shelf itself is ok looking. What I did not take into consideration was that the back feet that support and level the shelf on the back of my TV were about 4 inches to short to work on my TV. The feet only extend about three & ahalf inches screwed totally out. If I were concidering purchasing the shelf I would concider that before buying the item.

According to the product description it will fit TVs 13" and higher, but would not fit our 27" TV. The back support legs of the shelf are too short and very clumsy. The product description should also say that the shelf has to be attached to the TV with stickers to be stable. I expected the back legs to make it stable. The shelfs are very thin plastic, quite a cheap design. Did not work at all, but I am mostly upset about the product misrepresentation that it will fit all TVs 13" and higher.

I also had a difficult time with the company returning the item. I had to call twice just for a return label, and 6 weeks later they still have not refunded the price.

When I recieved the shelf it did not have the poles in the box to attach the top shelf. I emailed the company and did not recieve any response back from them. I had to use just the bottom shelf. I WILL NOT order anything else from these people,because they will not stand behind their products!

This shelf is flimsy, unstable and certainly not something you would want to trust any expensive electronic equipment on. Look for something else. This is a lemon.

This has been the most miserable thing to install. We have 8 foot ceilings in our bathroom. The packaging states that it works for up to 8 foot 1 inch. We can not get it to tension to stay up at all. We finally got it installed, though not the way it is intended to be installed. We used command hooks to hold up the top compartment that is currently keeping it steady up. We also went and got gripper feet for the bottom hoping it would help, which didn't because we still could not get enough tension to hold it in place.

We have had and used other over the toilet shelves before. This is the biggest piece of junk I have ever seen. Don't waste your money on it. I have a feeling it will be headed to the trash sooner than later.

I have a very small and compact bathroom that's as wide as my bathtub and about two feet longer than the tub's length. When I replaced my toilet last fall, the old, metal shelving unit I had no longer fit.

This cabinet was the only thing I could find that would fit the space. It's light-weight and assembly was relatively simple. It doesn't have as much capacity as my old unit did and because it's plastic, I'm hesitant to place too much stuff on the shelves. Still, it mostly serves its intended purpose and if space is at a premium, it's a decent purchase.

We have had our cabinet for well over a year and have had no complaints so far. Other reviews have lamented broken doors and weak hinges, and buyers should really take those reviews into consideration, but it hasn't happened here. However, our cabinet endures only the lightest use. We bought this cabinet to serve as a small liquor cabinet/bar area in our master suite. We wanted something that closed up out of the way and didn't draw attention to itself, something inexpensive yet functional, and something we could reuse for another purpose later. This fit the bill. We installed wine glass racks inside for the upper space, and store liquor bottles in the lower space. (We only used one shelf.) We placed marble tiles on top and our wine sits well on top. Small hooks on the inside and doors for bar accessories, and this has turned into a very small, very practical piece.

However, we don't open or use this cabinet every day. Not even close. If you plan to use this cabinet for daily use, the less-glowing reviews that reveal the hinge flaws are more appropriate. If you plan to use the cabinet for storage, but not daily opening (like us), this review might be more appropriate.

The rest of the Closetmaid line may be OK, but the cabinets have doors. The particle board on these doors is not strong enough to hold up with the pin hinge that is inserted. Within one month of use, two of my three cabinets had doors that literally fell off due to the particle board breaking off at the lower outside corner, therefore no longer being able to hold it's pin hinge. I might try to install home depot door hinges on them to repair them.

This cabinet has a really low price, which is nice. But it is really poorly made. It is the cheapest fiberboard. It does look nice in the picture. But I think that you will not be at all happy when you actually get the unit. I bought two of these, and one arrived with a panel cracked.

Due to the space limitations I had in my home regarding my second home theater unit, I needed to have my other Salamander Archetype to feature wheels for greater fluidity and mobility. These wheels fill the bill. Not only were they easy to place onto the bottom of my rack, in lieu of the rubber feet which normally come with the Salamander 5.0's, but they also got me going as well regarding putting the rest of the unit together. Once I was concluded loading up the rest of the components once the 5.0 was firmly in place, I was able to easily move the rack into position where it is now located. And even after I made my 5.0 a 7.0 via expansion, I can still wheel my unit around as needed to make adjustments in my second unit--as I have had to do. The saturn wheels even give my 7.0 extra-added height, making an already tall unit even taller. For the fluidity these wheels give, I say give these a whirl whenever better, preferred movement is needed for one's Salamander Archetype unit--however tall it may be. Very recommended!!!!

I got this exact configuration for my closet and it fit beautifully. It looks much nicer than it does in this picture. The wood is beautiful and the ends of the shelves are reinforced with metal so there are no rough edges.

Very nice solution for a quality closet system at a reasonable price. Also, can be easily disassembled if you wanted to move it somewhere else. I spent a long time researching what I was going to use in my closet after renovationsI am very pleased with this purchase.

Shelf Steel Wire Shelving Kit Size: 54"

This is what I expected, not a great quality product but worth the price you pay. When I received the shipment it was not packed very well so one of the shelves had a bend in the metal but I hammered that out and started putting it together. I use this one in my bedroom for storage of boxes. It works perfectly for me, it is a little short but for me that was perfect because the area I was putting it in didn't have a large amount of space from floor to ceiling. If you are looking for a cheaper but yet sturdy shelving unit then I would recommend this. The shipping was very speedy and I received it in a very timely fashion.

other than that, it's pretty basic for storing your stuff.

The storage rack was smaller than I expected but very sturdy and ended up being the right size for the space I placed it in. It is very easy to put together. One person can do it and no tools needed. It is a great item and would buy it again if I need another one.

I loved this product, it looks just like the photo, and is very nice quality. I was unhappy that I had to return it. I had selected it for a very specific space in my home, and discovered that this rack should be be installed onto the wall studs. The space I had in mind did not have studs in the right places to make this item workable for me. I advise measuring carefully and locating wall studs before ordering. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars because I feel that this necessary information should have been stated by the manufacturer on Amazon.

Wine Cabinet with Drawer and Glass Rack

I bought this for a friend of mine and I might buy one for myself in the near future. Solid piece of furniture which looks like it will withstand some abuse. Assembly was fairly straightforward but I did have some issues with it (pieces not fitting together exactly and I had to contact the manufacturer because I had a duplicate piece). Great customer service from Winsome. All in all, I cannot explain how much nicer the wine cabinet is in person compared to the pictures.

Bought one for myself. Outstanding quality for the price

I spent about 3 months trying to find the right wine rack for what I wanted. This rack encompassed everything I wanted. A drawer, more than 12 slots for wine, more than 12 slots for glasses. I was leery about buying this thought because it was about $200 cheaper than similar models. I was very impressed when I got it. The main parts are surprisingly heavy duty. It was very easy to put together. The color and look are beautiful and look like I spent a lot more money. I have gotten a lot of compliments. My only complaint is the drawer does not have stoppers on it so just be careful pulling it out because you might pull the entire drawer out.

I have had one for years and couldn't find another one. They are great in garages and for high places if you are short. I also love the red color. It works just fine for me.

The casters on this thing are terrible. The rest of it is fine, but don't expect to move this around with your foot. You'll have to pick it up to move it. Another problem is that once you put it together, it can't be dismantled (pieces of metal have to be bent as you snap it together), making returns extremely difficult. You'll have to return the whole thing assembled, versus in two parts, and the box isn't big enough for that.

The instructions read: "Note: Once the product is assembled, it cannot be taken apart or returned."
