Storage Dynamics 5-Foot Vinyl Covered Steel Over door Storage Basket Rack

The rack is not actually a five-foot rack. It comes as two separate 2.5' racks. Two C-shaped hooks (not permanently attached to either racks) are used to hook the bottom rack to the top rack. It is like a precarious swing set that falls apart at the slightest tremor.

Also, the top rack is connected to the over-the-door hooks by draping the top rack (with its pencil-thin wire) over two wide hooks. The hooks are not snug nor attached in any way, so the entire contraption slides around on the door.

I tried to use this equipment in my pantry door to hold spices, bottles, pasta, etc. Unfortunately, it was a game every time I opened the door. I never knew what configuration the racks would take when the door opened. The only guarantee was that -no matter what misshapened form the racks took -there was bound to be something I had to immediately catch from falling.

If you don't intend to use this rack as an over-the-door rack, I think it would be useful as a set of shelves nailed into the wall. Otherwise, I do not recommend this over-the-door rack because it's highly unstable.

It works as described. It is two (2) pieces; the bottom piece is hung with hooks from the top piece.

I had about 75 videos and 15 DVD's in it. The depth isn't quite right and it will not lay flat against the door with DVD's or VHS with the big covers (like Nightmare before Christmas or the original Shrek). Still, it doesn't stick out that far and you might not even notice. The width isn't right either and you end up with just enough space on a shelf that you think you can fit another DVD in but you can't.

It is cheap, cost wise, and you get what you pay for. With that many movies in it, it is bending a little at the top using the door hangers. I think I am going to screw it into the door and that should take care of it. I do not think it will collapse or break, it is made of wire, but it does bend a little.

It is worth the money if, like me, you want something cheap to hold movies.

Bottom line, buy it, use it, and if you set your expectations at the level of the cost of the product, you will not be disappointed.

I am rating it 5 stars because it does what it says and it is worth the price it is being sold at. If it was more expensive I would lower the rating.

This is an inexpensive item and I expected it to be cheap but I was pleasantly surprised. I received this item today. It was professionally wrapped for shipping and came in about six pieces. There were two racks with two wire connectors and two over the door brackets. It went together in about five seconds. I decided to get a pair of pliers and bend the wire connectors and bracked in some to make it more permanent. Since I was hanging it on a metal door and couldn't use screws to permanently attach it to the door, I took some clear strapping tape and taped it to the door where it wouldn't be seen. Finally, I took a couple of wire coat hangers and added some hooks to hang grocery bags off of the shelves.

I was pretty impressed with how much it holds. True, I wouldn't put cans of vegetables in the racks but they hold quite a bit of boxes of cereal, noodles, etc.

The optional screws would make it very sturdy in my opinion. If they made a 14" wide model, I'd order it in a second for another door. I'm pleased. It's a good product and it's fairly inexpensive.

I think this would be a good product to add storage in other rooms as well such as a bedroom closet.

I was extremely disappointed in the quality of this hanging self. Very flimsy, bendable, and does not hold its shape. I would be afraid to hang it on the door for fear it would not hold. I mistakenly threw the receipt away otherwise I would return it. Not sure what I am going to do with it.

Junk. Save your money. I tried putting small bottles and jars on a couple of shelves, and they immediately started to bend and the hooks that go over over the door bent so badly they almost straightened, so the whole rack almost fell off the door. This useless product is made of extremely weak and flimsy metal (tin?) that will not hold anything besides a box of teabags and some ziploc bags. Home Depot has a much stronger version for $30!

The shelves are as described except the dimensions are woefully off. Each individual shelf is 36" wide X 18" deep. The total unit assembled is indeed approximately 57" high. The extra size kills my ability to set them in the space I had planned out. Otherwise they seem sturdy, and at least the package I opened didn't seem to have damage on any of the parts.

I have a lot of Holiday bins that I intended to store on this but it looks like I will just need to store odd (smaller) size bins and misc. items. I bought it to my bathroom because the bathtub has very narrow edges and hence no space for lodging shampoo and conditioner bottles and the like. The bathtub has a small handrail, and that's exactly where I hung this basket. It is the perfect size for 1 liter shampoo and conditioner bottles, and there is extra space I can fill with other stuff. It is narrow enough so that it doesn't stand in the way while showering (I knew that beforehand because all the dimensions are reported by the seller).

Love, love, love these shelves. They are extremely easy to assemble and so versitle with the rolling legs. Have 3 of them up and ready to go in my basement right now!! High recommendation!!

This wire shelf is great because it is modular, sturdy, and easy to assemble. What I like about this shelf is that each of the four posts comes in 2 pieces that screw together in the center to form a solid connection. This allows you to either construct one great big tall shelf or two half sized shelves with the option of attaching another shelf layer in between. This is highly useful if your storage needs ever change. Once assembled, the wire shelf is sturdy and easy to move with the included castor wheels; these roll smoothly on ball bearings and also lock into place. The fit and finish seems good and welded connection points of this brand of wire shelf seem better than other brands of wire shelves that I own.

The only issue I have is that assembly of the shelf relies on plastic conical wedges that use small nibs and grooves to secure the shelves in place. For one, they are plastic so I don't know how well they will fare outdoors in the sun. Two, occasionally you may damage or flatten the plastic nib on the wedge and render the piece useless; replacements can be easily had, though. Lastly, because the shelf construction relies on downward pressure to secure a shelf to the posts, one cannot pick up and move the unit by lifting at the shelf itself, but rather must grasp at the posts to lift. These however are only minor annoyances that do not seriously affect my satisfaction with this product.

When I recieve the package I was amazed at the weight of the product. A heavy product means a well built product and this product is very well built. The main support is coated steel, the shelves are solid glass, there is even a built in level at the top of the main support for easy hanging. This product will even support a total of 66lbs, similar products from other companies will only support half that amount and cost twice as much (plus the shelves are not even glass) I am recomending this product from US Brown Bear to every person I encounter who is interested in a wall mounted entertainment system. If you are wall mounting an entertainment system, do it right the first time, and it cannot be done "right" without this product hanging on your wall along with your TV

This stand is great. I have only two issues though. One is more my fault than anything. My A/V receiver is fairly large, and hangs just a tad off the edge of the shelf. It fits without any components plugged in, with the power cord, hdmi cables and speakers all plugged in, it will not sit flush against the back of the stand. Not a huge issue, but I wouldn't mind seeing a brownbear shelf with larger shelves. Would definitely buy in the future. The other issue is the cord management system built into the mount. It takes a bit of effort to organize all the cords behind the unit. Took much longer than I anticipated, but I did manage to fit three hdmi cables, four power cords, a coax cable and 5 different strands of speaker wire. This took some effort and the use of a flat head screw driver to push the cables into the correct slot. Looks great though, very sturdy. I mounted this into dry wall and did not use the hardware shipped with the product(if you try this, purchase the correct anchors and screws). Still feels very solid even without the stud. All in all, there is about 19 pounds worth of equipment on it.

Pros:

Easy to install, good instructions and had it up in a matter of minutes.

It's attractive and streamline.

The glass shelves are sturdy and well constructed

Works best when anchored to a wall stud.

Cons:

The shelf is just smaller than our new surround sound unit..and as warned in other reviews, it shifts the weight of the unit to be less stable. It caused our bottom shelf to wobble and tilt to one side and there is no visible way to correct this, tighten or shim it.

Overall, good value.

Atlantic Maxsteel 3020 432 CD/228 DVD/114 VHS/ 8-Tier Media Rack Black

i got the black Atlantic 3020 in the mail yesterday and had it put together in about 10 or 15 minutes. i can fit about 220 dvds on the thing, a huge improvement over having the wobbly stacks taking up a corner of floor in my room.

It looks attractive, with a smooth flat balck finish, and seems very sturdy (especially with the provided wall strap for anchoring). If you use this rack strictly for DVDs, and sit them in horizontal rows, you will only be able to fit 6 tiers (leaving two extra) on the rack.

I already have more DVDs than this unit can occupy so i have this idea. The unit seems more than sturdy enough to hold more tiers, and because of my limited floor space, building this thing up vertically would be necessary. I purchasing another Atlantic 3020, and incorporating the parts into the existing stand to make it about 6 or 7 feet high and hold about 10 or 11 tiers. I'm very confident after seeing the construction and utilizing the wall strap that i can pull this off.

All in all i think this is a great unit and would recommend it to anyone who needs a space-effictent media rack.

At the time of my purchase, the black model was 30 dollars more than the chrome model. I don't quite understand that, but the thing is well worth it either color you choose.

After collecting DVDs for years, my collection quickly rose to the quadruple digits. I've tried the wood shelves (good but often too short and too wide), the spinning shelves (holds a decent amount but takes up too much space) and the wireframe shelves (hold low amounts of discs but saves a lot of space). I figured I'd give this one a try due to the low space it uses (due to its height) and the amount of discs it holds.

A correction to the amazon description: According to the box, it only holds up to 450 DVDs (not the 564 they list)

The first thing that came to mind while assembling this disc was the quote above "You're only as strong as your weakest link".

You do get a number of metal pieces but the feet feel like a light plastic, as do all of the clips. The 'feet' screw into the bottom of each pole but don't screw in completely (this allows them to spin, but also not feel as strong as they should be).

The clips are 2 plastic pieces that 'click together' onto the pole, and then you slide the metal shelves onto it until it locks in place.

Unfortunately, while it is made out of metal, the pieces don't appear to be the sturdiest. The unit comes with 12 shelves and 3 of mine arrived damaged (one of them had the rear disc-holder (that keeps you from pushes cds/dvds off the back of the shelf) bent completely below the rest of the frame. The other 2 damaged pieces arrived with the holes (that you slide onto the metal poles) bent to the point that you can't even put those shelves onto the unit. If they arrived like this, it leaves me a little worried on just how well it will hold up over the years with many pounds of weight placed on them.

Fully put together, I like the size. It's about 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It does seem to lean forward when not filled, so I would highly suggest using the included wall-mount to prevent it from tumbling.

A few disappointments with the design: it has trouble holding non-standard sized cases. This means that while it will hold CD's and DVDs, cases like PSP UMD's will not fit due to the metal wireframe. Fortunately, Blu Ray and HDDVDs do fit.

Also, if you set the shelf size to fit a DVD case, it will just fit a standard sized case (if you try to use one in a cardboard slipcover, the bottom wiring of the shelf above will prevent it from fitting into certain areas (it will still fit on the sides of these areas, but not directly beneath them) this has caused me to re-arrange some of my movies (taking them out of order) to get them to fit.

Overall, while it isn't the quality I hoped for, if it stays as sturdy as it is (meaning: does not bend further than the way it was when it arrived, and does not collapse) I'll be happy with it.

UPDATE: Sept 2008

After moving the shelves to a new location (where they werent tied to a wall), they came crashing down hard. The shelf comes off balance easily (such as if you bump into it) so be careful not to leave it somewhere that it can cause damage (the combination of height, metal and weight of hundreds of movies falling will do some damage). I still recommend it for the fact that its the tallest DVD shelf with the smallest footprint that I've seen.. just take caution and have it secured.

First of all, I am going to buy another one, so I don't think it is all that bad. But it is advertised as a rack for DVDs, and it wasn't designed well for that. They give you 5 shelves, but it requires an 8 inch space between shelves to hold the semi-standard single DVD (forget a boxed set, which is taller). The posts that hold the shelves are 29 inches long. Let's see...29 divided by 8 per shelf???? Even if you leave the top shelf at the very top of the posts, you end up with 3 tight shelves, 1 on the top that provides no support, and one shelf of 4 inches in height. No problem, you can just lay your remaining DVDs down, right? Nope, they figured that out in advance and made the damn thing a quarter of an in too narrow to allow three stacks. (That's okay, if you lay them down they just fall out the back anyway.(

Still for the price it will hold a lot of DVDs, I'll just have to order another to hold the rest. A couple of tips: The shelves are supported by little plastic clips that the corner of the shelf slips over. If you snap both halves together, they will not slide up and down, even without a shelf on them. The trick is to snap the first half onto the post, and then slide it up or down until you feel/hear the little "click", which means it has found the groove in the post. Then it is easy to snap the other half on at the same height, because they interlock. It will still be fun forcing the shelf down on all four corners to the same height, but then, it's flexible enough not to be an issue. Second, the little wire supports that are meant to keep things from falling over are virtually worthless if you have the shelf fairly full. Save them for the ends of that top shelf that is hanging out in space, to keep the discs on that shelf from toppling off the side of the shelf.

Putting the shelves together was relatively easy. After I had put it together, I changed my mind on the vertical spacing I wanted between shelves. It was easy to change the heights of the shelves.

These shelves are advertised for holding DVDs and CDs. I use it for holding DVDs and VHS tapes (yes I still have some).

I give this rack system five stars because of the ease of set up, ease of changing shelf heights, and the quantity of DVDs that it can hold, and the price. I am sure you can find better (sturdier) shelving, but at what cost?

I have not yet used the straps that come with the rack for anchoring the shelves to the wall. The foot pieces can be adjusted. I adjusted the front legs to be a bit taller than the back legs so that the rack naturally wants to tip back into the wall. If you are worried about a small child trying to climb up the shelves, you should use the wall straps.

If/when I fill this DVD rack and need more storage space, I will buy another one of this brand and size of rack.

The pie safe is well made and finished beautifully. I use it in my kitchen as a "snack cabinet" and to hold the extras that won't fit in my less than ample cabinet space. I could have gone with something cheaper but this really is a nice piece of furniture that adds simply elegance to my little kitchen.

Love this item. Excellent wood quality. Very heavy and sturdy. The wood is unfinished, so you will need to coat it with mineral oil(or a similar product) to protect the surface.

Our ONLY complaint is the way the wood panel inserts attach to each door panel. According to the assembly instructions the panels are supposed to stay in place with ONLY the included clear plastic strips, but these failed to hold the panels in place for us at all. However, after my husband added a few tiny finishing nails(tapped in right through the clear plastic strips) to hold the panels more securely, we are good to go!

Sorry-I lost the link in the middle of the review. I was not happy with this item! It was difficult to put together, and took nearly more strength that I have. I have had some experience putting furniture together-but this one took every bit of ingenuity and strength I could muster-and I used my problem-skills to get it done. I was horrified that the tacky plastic pieces were necessary to hold in the front inserts and figured out that I needed carpenter's wood glue in addition. I could not believe that the little metal pins and light screws were the connectors. The top was nearly impossible to put on and is loose at one corner, despite my efforts. I am sick at heart that I must spend so much time in the future oiling this piece! I moved it myself into place in the kitchen, but felt connections straining under the effort. The pieces do not fit-and there are obvious 1/16-1/8 inch gaps all around. I would return this if it did not cost a lot-and I have put lightweight (empty canning jars) and only some full jars in the ccabinet as I fear the shelves (on pins) will not hold more weight.

The cabinet should NOT be sent unassembled, and should have been put together with more adequate hardware. The pieces should fit together more closely-I could not keep any food or paper in this cabinet-mice would love it as a home, a feeding plac e, and a nesting hotel! If I could, I would call this company up and tell them to come get this! -jgw

Built solid and generally assembled well. As observed by others I found that the plastic retainers which hold the door panels in the door frame are totally inadequate. I chose to secure the panels using carpenter's wood glue. I needed a variety of clamps and weights to hold the panels in place while the glue dried. This is because the panels come with a warp to them. This gluing probably added 5 hours to the assembly time. Final assembled product is attractive and usefull.

Umbra Woodpecker 5-Hook Wall-Mount Hook

I was looking for a fun coat rack for my laundry room. I thought the Umbra woodpecker wall-mount hook was cute and I do really like it. The birds can tilt forward or back. The product looks great on the wall. The only criticism I have is that I thought I could put a winter scarf through the open parts of the birds bodies but the holes are much too small for that. Only a thin silk scarf could possibly fit through those openings. I am happy with my purchase. Would recommend this product.

We bought the umbra woodpecker hook for our foyer and it looks stunning. As our walls are white, they don't really stand out (it would have been great if they did) But they look good, the finish is clean and it was an easy installation. We have screwed it into the studs,so it is pretty sturdy and holds 5 light weight jackets effortlessly. Tested it with 2 more heavier, winter jackets and still looks put. Happy with the quality and workmanship.

Would definitely purchase it again if it becomes available in wood finish or in the color black.

it is quite expensive for what it is. but i thought it was very original. easy to put up on wall. hooks seem not as solid as i thought. a bit of paint smeared on hook. in the back, the hole where screw goes is not well cut out.
