My unit arrived with no damage, unlike other customers. Perhaps Techcraft/Amazon have been learning from previous experiences.

Installation wasn't hard and I was able to put it together in ~2.5 hours on my own. The shipped package that the unit arrives in is quite heavy (~100 lbs). I opened it up in my foyer and took the pieces in. Certain individual pieces can be heavy too (~10-15 lbs). The assembly steps are ok; they just tell you how to the pieces connect together. However, as I was alone, some steps did require some creativity e.g. when I had to align to larger pieces to bolt them together, one had to be a few inches off the ground. I propped it up with some coffee table books. Such tips would be very useful in the assembly manual.

Pros:

Good solid unit, with good finish.

The top surface doesn't scratch easily. That's important when you're placing/adjusting a large flat-screen TV on top of it. I do my assembly alone and can't lift the TV continuously. Its easier to shuffle it step by step on top. I haven't scratched the top-surface yet.

Spacious but not a huge unit.

I wanted a unit with doors to keep our baby away from the electronics :-). There aren't too many units in the market with doors. The doors do have tempered glass.

Things to watch out for:

When you assemble the units, you need to attach thin vertical boards to the back which are black and mostly cover the wall or stuff behind. They do have holes to run cables from your components, but they are somewhat small. In my case, it wasn't possible to wire up my receiver through such small holes and I cut a wider opening. I guess the size of the holes are a trade-off; too large and one would be able to see the wall behind the unit on shelves that are empty. The board is thin and its easy to break sections off. But a cleaner/elegant solution for flexible hole sizing would be nice.

The unit is heavy, especially with all the components/TV in it. So figure out the final spot for the unit and then put things in.

I purchased this stand from Amazon. The box arrived a little tattered and torn, but for the most part the contents were damage free. Other reviews have commented on the aesthetics and functionality of the stand. I agree with all of their comments. I had to build mine and will comment on the stand from that point of view.

I purchased the Techcraft SWBL60. Before unpacking the box, I recommend selecting a large clutter free area where you can spread out the several large pieces. I built mine on the floor close to where I planned to place the unit.

I quickly noticed that all of the holes were pre-drilled. Every piece fit very nicely together. If I was feeling the need to add some force to make it fit, I was not using the correct part in the correct place. Even down to installing the cardboard back, every hole was pre-drilled in both the cardboard, and the unit itself. The only place were I deviated from the installation instructions were the final two steps. I installed the shelves before I installed the doors. This worked out very well. I did not have to monkey with getting the shelves though a smaller opening. The shelves did not interfere with my ability to mount the hinges for the doors. I recommend installing the shelves prior to installing the doors.

To be critical of the product is difficult. It is a TV stand and intended to be used for that purpose. The unit was missing 2 of 24 hinge screws. It came with a dented corner on what happened the back of one of the shelves that no one can see.

This item smells of quality. I think that it would be tough to find a better built piece of furniture for the price. I highly recommend it, and would by another without looking any farther.

Package arrived right on time. Upon assembling found I had two left pieces. Instructions clearly gave website and phone number to manufacturer for parts issues. I used the website and the next day was informed the piece had been shipped via FEDEX. Process was simple.

Saw the same unit at a local store and found it cheaper at Amazon.

I haven't assembled packaged furniture in years, but this assembly went perfectly! I did the assembly by myself in two phases, since I wanted to do the basic tv components set up before I did the doors. Took about two hours for the first part, and under two for the doors. This taking my time, and spending some minutes getting the door hinges perfect. I am totally impressed with the engineering that went into this product, making assembly of a sturdy, attractive product using primarily drawing instructions.

The final test: my wife was happy with the appearance, and even the smooth operation of the doors.

Office Bookcase With Cabinet

I purchased two of these to go along with my matching executive desk and file cabinet. Just like the desk, these file cabinets are beautiful, VERY solid and VERY heavy. They're not constructed of flimsy plywood with a cardboard sheet on the back. They're solid wood and they have a beautiful stain and finish no veneer. It matches my executive desk perfectly. Given the price, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Shelves are solid and level, but do not appear to be adjustable. The doors line-up nicely and snap shut well. Hardware is nice and sturdy. Wood has a good stain that catches the light.

I wish they had provided, or allowed, for some type of lighting at the top of the cabinet. I would have paid a little extra for that and it would make these bookcases really stand-out. However, given the price, I can't complain.

Very well packaged. Ships as a single piece. Extremely heavy, so have two people with strong backs to help you move this.

It isn't the sturdiest bookcase ever and it doesn't have sides [which I did not think about until I got it], so I bought decorative bookends for it and it looks great.

This item arrived in mint condition!I was afraid of recieving something broken for the amount of money I spent on the product and shipping. I have to say that I was not dissapointed at all. We bought this shelf 2.5 years ago to hang above our daughter's changing table for things like lotions, sunscreens, etc, that were taking up too much space on the table. We're now expecting our second child, and I wanted another shelf to hang in his room since we're still using the shelf in my daughter's room even though we've moved the changing table to the baby's room. I bought one at Target for about the same price as this one, and it's not nearly as nice. It's unstable on the wall and I'm uncomfortable putting it above where my child will be laying. I actually cracked the shelf slightly trying to get it on the wall, and it's not nearly as thick as this shelf, which I think helps increase the stability. We will be attempting to return the new one to Target and are ordering another of the Knape and Vogt shelves because the quality is far superior. We did not have any problems with the paint, I can't remember what the wall anchors were like but we always have those on hand so I probably wouldn't have noticed if they were poor quality -would just have used my own.

Mine arrived in great condition. It looks great installed. Only gripe the drywall anchors that come with it do not have a lip on them. We lost one in the wall. Luckily we had our own supply of them and used our own anchors to install this beautiful shelf.

I ordered 2 shelves. Color is more cream than white and is not consistent, so I had to paint them. One shelf was chipped on both ends and so warped, you could never hang it. I called seller's customer service 2x and was forced to leave messages. No one called back. Then sent an email and received quick response. They shipped another shelf pretty quickly and told me to throw the damaged one away. I am happy with the shelves despite the hassle and painting needed.

These shelves are really well made and seemed so sturdy, but the finish is terrible. I bought two of these, and both of them had a blotchy, uneven coat of paint that looked yellow in some spots. It was bad enough that it almost looked like coffee had spilled on them. I would NOT buy these again. Luckily the return was easy enough.

These brackets are made of heavy gauge metal, welded, and are extremely strong. The finish looks very good. The satin nickel is a little darker than the brushed chrome that I used for some other items, but blends well.

I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and work hard to return the favor as best as I can. I've tried both this version of shelving and two other versions that were more plain, gray steel varieties that assembled with pre-formed rivets that slot together. One of those cut the heck out of my hands. The other had no sharp edges, but was extremely unstable during assembly, and effectively required two people to hold it together until fully framed.

Not only is this shelving much, much easier for a person to put together by himor herself, it is also much more stable that the alternatives. And, despite the fact that it's fairly light-weight (and thus easier to move than the alternatives), it's at least as solid. I'll buy more of these.

Like the previous reviewer, we tried many different metal shelves, but none are made as sturdy or with the same quality as Whitmor, and assembly is a breeze.

Not only do we use these shelves as basic storage, but they're so attractive that we also use the 4 tier chrome shelf as an entertainment unit. With each shelf holding up to 350 lbs., you have limitless possibilities.

You might pay a bit more for Whitmor, but the quality is well worth the price.

I bought one of these specifically for my kitchen for extra appliance and canister storage and am very happy with the result. These shelves are strong, sturdy, and attractive enough to be on permanent display. As mentioned in another review, they are easy for one person to assemble. I'm quite pleased with them and will probably buy another in the near future.

One problem, for my intended application, that I didn't think about when I bought them: These are wire shelves, so there are gaps between the wires . Appliance cords dangle through the shelf wires; appliances sit cock-eyed when the feet don't line up with the wires, etc. However, this was rather easily solved: I made a quick trip to the hardware mega-store for some thin acrylic sheets (think Plexiglass) and a cheap plastic-scoring knife. I made a few measurements, scored the plastic with the knife, snapped off the excess and ended up with crystal-clear tops for each of the shelves.

Each wire shelf has a slight wire lip around it and my new plastic tops fit flush with the lip and were held in place by it. Now appliance cords don't hang down through the shelf; appliances don't sit cock-eyed and small items are safe. And, due to the angle of my kitchen lighting, you have to look very closely to even see the covers.

None of this takes away from these shelves. They'll serve you well for a long time.

I want to start off by warning purchasers to stay away from this product. The product does not look at all like it does in the picture, the precision of the machining was slightly off making it extremely difficult to slide the shelves and spacers into place, the drywall screw is made out of plastic and it snapped in half with a light twist, and the integrated cable management feature is useless. My suggestion is to find another shelf pronto!

I didn't really know how to rate this pros of it is, it is really nice and very sturdy made with real nice wood and it's really easy to assemble. one thing that really frustrated me was that when bought I was not only looking for a bookshelf but also something to hold my blu ray's one thing I loved about this was it said you can have a shelf space of 6 3/8" which is perfect for them so I could have bought extra shelves to throw on there and it would have been wonderful however the actual shelf space is 5 1/2" so I ended up having to use the whole thing just for my movies. So if you're specifically for a book shelf this is the one! however if you want it for other stuff just remember actual shelf space is 5 1/2". Not to big of a deal though just frustrating how misleading it was, I do like their stuff so I will probably just buy one of their entertainment centers...

Very small but functional to place software cds/dvds & small reference books on it. I purchased with the student desk and had a small area to put it in. It's a great one--two punch.

I got this to add to the desk that matches it. It's a real nice desk. The kids loved putting it together. It was fun and easy. The paint used has strong odor but will go away within a day or 2. This get compliments as well. My only gripe is that the paint can come off if scratched. Come panel were scratched already, but luckily they were in non viewable areas.
