Corner Shelf

BOTTOM LINE:

It is fine for a corner where a small decorative shelf can be used but won't be seen up close regularly. ABSOLUTELY would NOT recommend for anyone on the "serious" or "professional" end of interior design; the quality is just far too low to be acceptable. However, with that said, for those on a budget it is a decent looking shelf...just don't let people get too close to it and realize it HOLDS VERY LITTLE WEIGHT. Also, if you plan on regularly putting things on/taking things off of it, the hanging mechanism may become a concern as the shelf audibly knocks against the wall with the slightest touch. Keyhole mounts would have easily remedied this problem.

The quality is below cheap IKEA furniture. However, it *IS WOOD*. I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about heavy cardboard...it is clearly solid wood...just cheap, solid wood.

-Nice modern look

CONS:

-Wall mount screws/nails are NOT included. Would it have really hurt them that much to include 2 nails? (Assembly screws ARE provided, but only enough to put the whole thing together, not to put it on the wall)

-Mounts to the wall via 2 "hang tabs" attached to the back of the TOP piece of wood only (similar to a light painting). It does NOT use keyhole sockets and does NOT come with the extra nails required to mount it to the wall (although the hang tabs do come preattached). Because of this hanging method, the amount of weight it can hold is severely limited....the shelf is already fragile but keyhole sockets on the top and bottom pieces of wood would have increased the weight this shelf could hold by 5x easily...

-Also, it is only attached to the wall at the very top so it can "swing" away from the wall easily. Minor point but to be considered if kids will bang into it or the like.

-Note the dimensions; it is quite small.

-The "wood" is VERY cheap and has BLEMISHES ALL OVER IT.

-The "paint" is entirely uneven (looks like it was literally hand painted in someones garage). There are large clumps of dried paint on the corners of nearly every piece.

-Instructions are incomplete. Although it is very simple to assemble there is one trick that is not included in the instructions (and is probably the only part that would need an instruction). If it helps anyone: The LARGE drill holes are where your screw HEADS should go (so they should be on the outside); line up the small parts.

-The image is tricky. LOOK CLOSELY. The center two shelves are CURVED NOT STRAIGHT. This ended up being a minor inconvenience to me (as it makes the already tiny shelf EVEN smaller, and I wanted a very "cube" image for my room). The image included is quite tricky and its not noticeable at a quick glance. I guess this was my own fault, but I still think a clearer image should be included...perhaps I will take one and submit it.

NEUTRAL:

-Kinda cheap at less than $20, but then again it looks like $5 of wood and stain made in someones garage so...

This shelf unit broke before it even got out of the bubble wrap. It appears to be make from heavy cardboard, and is shockingly flimsy.

I fell in love with this shelf, then I read the reviews and was discouraged. I took a chance and ordered it anyways... I have added an image I took of my shelf (the one with the dollar bill next to it for size reference)...

Pros:

Looks VERY nice on the wall I like the look a lot!

Great accent shelf, and definitely more unique than most. Very modern.

Seems to be solid wood.

Cons:

When purchased I thought well, this is inexpensive great! Once I got it and saw how small it was, I decided it would probably be more reasonable at a price of approximately $9.99. If it were $9.99, I'd actually buy a couple more for the house.

Also in relation the the price being too high for what it is, I should mention that the screws are silver and there aren't any of those little plastic plugs, or even black stickers (like Ikea gives you). Again, another reason why I think the price is too much. I'll have to take a black sharpie and color the screws so they don't shout "silver."

Not great material. Cheaply made, although, if you are careful with it, I don't think it's really too noticeable once hanging. Just don't touch it! I'm afraid if I touch it, it might break!

Does not hold much weight.

Awful hanging mechanism and once you get it up you won't want to move it! But once it's up, it looks nice :-)

Neither pro nor con, but worth making note of:

Maybe it's just me, but I invisioned this being quite a bit larger. Fortunately for me, it worked out better being smaller (I was a little hesitant when ordering because I was afraid it might be too big for the spot where I wanted to put it). Definitely not! I have attached a photo with my review, and I taped a dollar bill on the wall next to it for size reference.

The color is listed as Espresso. To me, it looks black. I interpret Espresso as a very, very dark brown. I think it looks great in our black/white/red bedroom. I suppose if you have brown or wood/earth tones, it might "take on" those colors and not look quite as black.

SEI Mission-Oak Bathroom Space Saver

I love it, the style is above average, I don't like things that look like what everyone else has. I could not install the bottom shelve however, as I have a higher toilet, and tried adding to the bottom of the legs, but it didn't work. But I still love it, and it looks great, and well built.

If purchased to be used behind a toilet in the USA, it's unlikely that it will fit! Putting this thing together is a nightmare. There is only pictures and the print is very light. The hardware alone is not enough to hold it together, I has to use a stong glue compound, remove to bottom piece, add hardware on the bottom legs to raise it high enough so that the toilet seat would not hit the bottom shelf when it is opened. There are 2 holes drilled and some light screws and anchors included, but for added stability, I drilled 2 more holes and much stronger anchors and longer screws. It does not, of course, sit flush with the wall if you have a baseboard. It's made in China and most likely Teak(very hard to drill into, but scratches pretty easily). If it hadn't been so heavy and I had not spent so many hours getting it together, I would have returned it. On a positive note, the one shelve inside is adjustable, there is good height for storage of items, and the packing was very good.

The item is okay, but not as sturdy or roomy as I expected. Since purchasing this item, I have found several similar items that are much cheaper and just as nice. It would also be nice to have feet on bottom of legs especially since this is an item for the bathroom where water can get onto the floor and wick up the legs.

Cheap construction, but it actually went together ok and had all the right pieces, parts, etc.

The finished product actually looks pretty good.

The screws are garbage and the heads tended to strip out easily. Substituted some Made in USA steel screws for the critical holding points.

Well, Let me be the first to say, Great price! I recieved it today. So, I ordered this December 17th and recieved it December 26th. at least 5-7 business days I'd say. The quality of the wood I'd say is okay. Definitely not the best but its nice. The wood was peeling a bit on one side. and popping open in the middle on one. But I didnt care! VERY EASY AND QUICK SET UP!!!! I bought this to be a beauty Shelf. Hairspray that normally wouldn't fit anywhere, fit PERFECTLY in between any shelf. I loved the look of the wood. Although, I feel like it could bend very easily. I very much like it. I set it up in three steps. 1. Put the wood upside down. Put the caps under screws upright. Then screw the poles on (that are plastic) 2. Repeat step 1 for the second step. Except you just screw it onto the other plastic pole which came in handy! 3. Finally, just put the bottom caps on and flip it over.

It come's with picture Directions which were much easier to follow than words in my opinion. It comes with 8 poles, 4 caps, 4 bottom legs, and 3 pieces of wood. Definitely a great purchase. Thank you Momentum Furnishings

Salamander A3/B Archetype 3.0 - Black

I got this for my new Marantz receiver and Audio Technics turntable after the salesman recommended the Salamander brand. Wanted open air to keep the components cool and the leveling capability that this shelf has. The price on Amazon was considerably less than elsewhere. It arrived promptly and I put it together myself (female and average at assembly so this is on the simple side). It is in fact level and fits in with my decor which is transitional, and it would go equally well with more contemporary furnishings. It is VERY solid, and my stereo is protected and accessible on this shelf unit.

I was originally concerned that nothing in the product description described HOW to level the stand (I need it absolute since I'm using it to put a turntable on the top shelf. This thing is sturdy. It's not going anywhere. Granted, I have concrete floors, so I can't say you won't need pads for the included spikes or how well those will work. I was able to balance the top shelf in 15 mins with a level (round with concentric circles, like five bux on Amazon). I only knocked a star out of ignorance as to how it will fare on carpet.

Having seen this Brand at Best Buy, and having a chance to really get an up close look, I knew before I ordered this shelf from Amazon that I was getting a quality product. The full TV stand/unit from this company runs around $1500.00 from Best Buy, however from Amazon it's less!

I don't want to get to off subject, just pointing out the price from Amazon is very competitive for this brand, and as always, Amazon offers free shipping.

When it arrived, I was very pleased. First off, another sign you know you're dealing with a quality product, is the shelves are fairly heavy, and all parts feel sturdy and have a real quality to them. No offense to Target, but this is much higher quality then you will find in a comparable 3 shelf unit, from most stores. ( I own a bookcase/shelf from Target, and am happy with it, but the purpose of this shelf is to enhance the high tech movie room/ home theater/ living room etc.)

I took my time putting it together, as to not scratch/ding any parts, and it took about an hour, but your time may be faster! It is fully adjustable once all shelves are together etc, so you can balance it out on all levels/corners. It does not wobble or anything like that, and I have it on hard wood flooring. Overall very happy.

As a side note, I am pretty sure most Salamander pieces can be added onto later, i.e. I could purchase another one of these and make it higher/ order another one for a pair, and they can be used and integrated with other components from within this line of the Salamander Brand. Lots of good info on the there website. Since this product is heavy, it's a big plus with free shipping from Amazon, as something this weight could become expensive to ship if bought from a company that charges for shipping. Thanks Amazon for the great mix of products you guys sell!

The wine rack is nice and very functional. My issue with it was the design of the shelves. The main piece is hinged and unfolds but you have to insert wooden dowels into pre-drilled holes to hold the shelves. The dowels were larger than the holes (I guess to make them snug) and you are instructed to insert them with a rubber mallet. Since there were no specific instructions on how hard or far to drive the dowels in I attempted to insert them as far as they would go. On one of them I split the wood around the dowel hole. After that I was very careful to tap them in only so far. This in my opinion is poor engineering and poor documentation. Had they documented better instructions and/or improved the design I would have been completely pleased with this product.

I love this rack. I'm not a big fan of putting things together. But the assembly that needed to be done on this rack was a snap. The sides & a couple of the shelves are hinged then the other shelves are assembled with dowel pins. It looks great!!

Rubbermaid 5E28 Deluxe Tool Tower Rack with Casters, Holds 40 Tools

We got this just before moving to consolidate lots of tools from wall racks to something we could handle at a house with no garage (yet). It was so easy to assemble I did it in the kitchen and it took only about five minutes. It took longer figuring out where to put everything than it did to put it together.

It is very stable and the wheels make it very easy to move around. Basically, we stuck everything with a long handle in it and still have holes left over. The only knock I have on the unit is that there is no positive locations for the ends of the tools on the base so many of them flop around a bit making it somewhat harder to keep things organized. But even that is nothing compared to having all these tools handy and tangle free.

I looked at several other similar units and Rubbermaid's is much stronger and more stable. A good deal for the money. I highly recommend it for anyone trying to corral a number of yard tools in a small place.

After many years of having my yard tools falling on the floor, hitting me in the head and near impossible to find in the pile they where in, Rubbermaid came to the rescue wirh this cart. With only 10 parts it took less than 10 min. to assemble.

NOTE;::: A rubber mallet or a piece if fairly heavy wood would help to tap the wheels into the holes when you are assembling it. You won't need any other tools to assemble the rest of it.

I have 22 tools in there now and room for more. It will be nice and sturdy if you put some heavy tools on the lower platform as I have. I also have it backed up to my garage corner wall, with the wheel locks engaged so it is extremely stable. I would not roll this cart around to much with a full rack of heavy tools in it. It's stable against the wall but a bit tipsy when I get it away from there. It does not stick out very far from the wall, plenty of room for my car.

Wheels collapsed when I populated with shovels and other metal hand tools. The plastic wheels have weak supports that split when you roll the unit on first use. System works fine once placed in the corner and stays in place. I did not give lowest rating since it unit was inexpensive and serves primary purpose. In additionn, it may work OK for grass rakes and brooms.

(#1 REVIEWER)I love keeping things organized, and this tool rack really got my basement much better organized.

There were a lot of details that I was not sure about when I purchased this unit. To high light these details I am attaching 13 photos organized in 3 photo collages under customer's photos. Each photo has a unique number that I will be referencing in this review.

The rack arrived in a huge box which looked a bit intimidating when I first saw it, I was not sure if I will be to carry it all by myself. Photo 1 & 2 show the package next to a chair for size reference. It turned out to be rather light, as the rack itself only took a small part of the box. I had to take it out of the box to carry it down to the basement.

Photo 7 shows all the parts before I assembled them. It is best to assembled the rack first, and the flip it and add the coasters. This makes it easier to assembled it. I pounded on each leg (and coasters) with a mallet to make sure there is a good tight fit (Photo 8). Photo 12 and 13 show the lock mechanism for the legs between the two levels of the rack. The lock keeps the legs in the proper orientation for assembly.

One thing I could not tell from the photos was the mechanism for holding handles on the front and sides of the rack. Photo #9 and #10 give a good view of them. The U shaped holders are pretty loose and the oval shape holders need to have things inserted from the top. I expected the U-shaped holders to have a squeeze mechanism which some of my other broom holders have. And in order to insert handles from the top you need to have enough clearance above the rack, which was a problem for some longer tools.

Photo 11 shows the coasters. Notice that two of them have locks and two of them do not. In order to make locking of the wheels easy and convenient the wheels with locks to onto the front of the side of the rack. The coasters arrived with the locks locked, and all four feels looked almost identical. I read some reviews that mentioned that the rack did not roll well, and I wonder if the locks on coasters remained locked. When locks on the coaster were unlocked I am able to roll the rack pretty easily. When I lock them, it move but with difficulty as only two wheels roll well.

Photos 3,4,5,6 show the rack loaded with the tools from different angles. I like the construction of the bottom shelve, it really catches the tools well and keeps them separated. The top has different size holes for different tools, and I found that helpful, but wish there were more big holes.

Dimensions:

The width (side to side) of the top shelf is 34"

The depth (front to back) of the top shelf is 13.5"

The width (side to side) of the bottom shelf is 37"

The depth (front to back) of the bottom shelf is 20"

The rack is 35" (i.e. from the floor to the top of the top shelf)

The summary of minor flaws:

1. I would have preferred a squeeze mechanism to hold handles on the front and sides.

2. Instead of oval holes, I would have preferred some other closure that did not require so much overhead clearance

3. I would have preferred more big holes on the top shelve

Overall, I am pleased with rack. I find it easy to move around the basement (I keep the coasters unlocked). All my tools fit and I have some room for expansion.

When stacked, they are sturdy and capable of holding as much steel or lead or whatever you want to put in them. OXO Good Grips Lift and Lock Pole Caddy

This is a phenomenal product. I'd give it ten stars if I could, and while it's certainly expensive, the price is more than matched by the quality. I was a bit reluctant to shell out the money for it, especially given there were no reviews here, but I'm very glad I did. I've had a different tension-pole shower caddy for several years, and it was amateur-hour compared to Good Grips' offering. The old pole was flimsy and bowed slightly in the middle from the tension. The shelves were held in place by plastic sleeves that used friction to keep them in place. The joints in the poles were covered with metallic tape, and the ends were capped with rubber stops that were so flimsy the pole actually cut through them. In addition to all that, the shelves were very shallow, and items placed on them frequently fell off with the slightest bump or knock.

The Good Grips caddy, however, is night and day different. The pole is really sturdy #no bowing#, and is joined with heavy-duty plastic screw ends. In addition, there are several pieces to the pole, so you can adjust it to fit various heights. I've now moved it to a part of the shower where I wasn't able to put the old caddy -which is a huge space-saver in my situation.

The locking mechanism for the shelves is brilliant. Whoever designed it should get a raise. Shelves are easy to adjust, but are also sturdy and very secure when locked in place. They're also quite deep, and the idea of having holes for putting bottles in upside down is genius. I haven't had any trouble with items falling off, either. Oh, and I really like the fact that I can remove the plastic trays from the metal frames to clean them. That's a nice touch.

Finally, the ratcheting mechanism the caddy uses to create tension is very easy to use and adjust, and creates a very secure lock. Also, the end caps are made of heavy-duty rubber, and are shaped to take advantage of corners.

I couldn't be more pleased with the caddy. I never write reviews, but this was just such a great product that I felt compelled to share. It's got so many intelligent design features, and it's easy to install, easy to move, and easy to clean. I can't think of a single negative thing about it, and I also can't think of anything else I wish it had. Seriously, the designers of this product should get an award! I wish all products were as intelligently designed and as well made as this one.

The shower caddies I got in the past all went rusty pretty quickly. I chose the OXO this time hoping that it's rust proof as it is claimed. It's three times more expensive. Unfortunately it did not deliver on the expectation. Two months after the purchase, I've already found multiple spots of rust. I'm planning on calling their customer service.

I'll admit it: I definitely balked a bit at the price when I first saw this. But after some hand-wringing, I decided to give it a shot because this tension pole caddy looked a million times better than those nasty plastic or chrome-plated ones, and OXO products have always treated me very well. I have to let people know that this is an AMAZING product.

PROS: Extremely easy to install, looks beautiful, and the amount of shelving is incredible. They are generously deep and very level (I made sure the tension pole was plumb using a small level); no shampoo bottles falling over when I put something down. And there are ample drainage holes on each. I actually only have 3 of them up because I don't have enough bath products at the moment! This past weekend was bathroom-cleaning time, and those shelves come off easily to wash if you wanted to, which I did.

CONS: None. It's too soon to comment on it's ability to not rust, but I'll try to remember to update on that after a few more months have gone by.

If you want a tension pole caddy, and this one looks perfect but seems a little too pricey, I recommend going for it. I probably shouldn't have, price-wise, but it's already proven to be well worth it.

UPDATE -September 15, 2010, one year later

Still the best product. Continues to look and clean well, doesn't look a year old, and no rust whatsoever. Again, best $100 spent.

Seeing the overwhelmingly positive reviews on this item, I purchased it hoping it will last at least a couple of years. Instead, after less than 60 days in service, rust is already starting to show at the welded joints on the buckets frame. Sure, it had sporadic exposure to water drops, but it's a shower pole after all.

I am exceptionally disappointed in this item, given its price. I would give it 0 stars if possible.

Installed this product 10 min ago. For $130 I would expect this item to be much more sturdy. Once installed, the pole seems in place but is not secure. The threaded endcaps which attach the metal poles together pull out of the poles and make the entire rod bow once installed. All of the latches are made from plastic which is ok but the amount of force required to close them makes me suspect how long they will last. Also you must overextend the pole before installing and then push it into place as the latch only locks the poles placement and doesn't raise it.

If OXO wanted to improve here they should have utilized a jack-like method allowing the user to extend the pole once in place and not have to pound it into the corner.

The shelves are held on by friction from the rubber pads on the back of their clips which under enough weight or with an upward force come loose and slide down. All in all I will be returning this product and purchasing the Simple Human shower caddy. I'll provide a review on that one once I get it.

Extremely disappointed in OXO quality.

**Update

So I decided I would keep it for a little while and test it out further. However I was only more disappointed. The racks began to rest only after 2 weeks of being installed in my shower. I've since taken it back and purchased the SimpleHuman one and like that one a lot better, I'll have a review on that one shortly.
